וּבְנֵ֤י רְאוּבֵן֙ בְּכ֣וֹר יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל כִּ֤י ה֥וּא הַבְּכ֖וֹר וּבְחַלְּל֣וֹ יְצוּעֵ֣י אָבִ֑יו נִתְּנָ֣ה בְכֹרָת֗וֹ לִבְנֵ֤י יוֹסֵף֙ בֶּן יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְלֹ֥א לְהִתְיַחֵ֖שׂ לַבְּכֹרָֽה׃

KJVNow the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the firstborn; but, forasmuch as he defiled his father's bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph the son of Israel: and the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright.

The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel (for he was the firstborn, but because he defiled his father's couch, his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph the son of Israel, so that he could not be enrolled as the oldest son;

כִּ֤י יְהוּדָה֙ גָּבַ֣ר בְּאֶחָ֔יו וּלְנָגִ֖יד מִמֶּ֑נּוּ וְהַבְּכֹרָ֖ה לְיוֹסֵֽף׃

KJVFor Judah prevailed above his brethren, and of him came the chief ruler; but the birthright was Joseph's:)

though Judah became strong among his brothers and a chief came from him, yet the birthright belonged to Joseph),

בְּנֵ֥י רְאוּבֵ֖ן בְּכ֣וֹר יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל חֲנ֥וֹךְ וּפַלּ֖וּא חֶצְר֥וֹן וְכַרְמִֽי׃

KJVThe sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel were, Hanoch, and Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.

בְּנֵ֖י יוֹאֵ֑ל שְׁמַעְיָ֣ה בְנ֔וֹ גּ֖וֹג בְּנ֥וֹ שִׁמְעִ֖י בְּנֽוֹ׃

KJVBeerah his son, whom Tiglathpileser king of Assyria carried away captive: he was prince of the Reubenites.

וְאֶחָיו לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֗יו בְּהִתְיַחֵ֥שׂ לְדֹרוֹת֙ רֹ֚אשׁ יְעִיאֵ֔ל וּזְכַרְיָ֖הוּ׃

KJVAnd his brethren by their families, when the genealogy of their generations was reckoned, were the chief, Jeiel, and Zechariah,

And his kinsmen by their clans, when the genealogy of their generations was recorded: the chief, Jeiel, and Zechariah,

וּבֶ֤לַע בֶּן עַ֙זָּז֙ בֶּן שֶׁ֣מַע בֶּן יוֹאֵ֔ל ה֚וּא יָשַׁ֣ב בַּֽעֲרֹעֵ֔ר וְעַ֥ד נְב֖וֹ וּבַעַל מְע֑וֹן׃

KJVAnd Bela the son of Azaz, the son of Shema, the son of Joel, who dwelt in Aroer, even unto Nebo and Baalmeon:

and Bela the son of Azaz, son of Shema, son of Joel, who lived in Aroer, as far as Nebo and Baal-meon.

וְלִמִּזְרָ֣ח יָשַׁ֔ב עַ֥ד לְבֹ֖וא מִדְבָּ֑רָה מִן נְהַ֖ר פְּרָֽת׃

KJVAnd eastward he inhabited unto the entering in of the wilderness from the river Euphrates: because their cattle were multiplied in the land of Gilead.

He also lived to the east as far as the entrance of the desert this side of the Euphrates, because their livestock had multiplied in the land of Gilead.

וּבִימֵ֣י שָׁא֔וּל עָשׂ֥וּ מִלְחָמָ֖ה עִם הַהַגְרִיאִ֑ים וַיִּפְּל֣וּ בְּיָדָ֔ם וַיֵּשְׁב֧וּ בְּאָהֳלֵיהֶ֛ם עַ֥ל כָּל פְּנֵ֖י מִזְרָ֥ח לַגִּלְעָֽד׃

KJVAnd in the days of Saul they made war with the Hagarites, who fell by their hand: and they dwelt in their tents throughout all the east land of Gilead.

In the days of Saul, they waged war against the Hagrites, who fell by their hand. And they lived in their tents throughout all the region east of Gilead.

וּבְנֵי גָ֥ד לְנֶגְדָּ֖ם יָשְׁב֣וּ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ הַבָּשָׁ֑ן עַד סַלְכָ֖ה׃

KJVAnd the children of Gad dwelt over against them, in the land of Bashan unto Salcah:

The sons of Gad lived over against them in the land of Bashan as far as Salecah:

יוֹאֵ֣ל הָרֹ֔אשׁ וְשָׁפָ֖ם הַמִּשְׁנֶ֑ה יַעְנַ֥י וְשָׁפָ֖ט בַּבָּשָֽׁן׃

KJVJoel the chief, and Shapham the next, and Jaanai, and Shaphat in Bashan.

וַאֲחֵיהֶ֣ם לְבֵ֣ית אֲבוֹתָ֗ם מִיכָאֵ֤ל וּמְשֻׁלָּם֙ וְשֶׁ֣בַע וְיוֹרַ֔י וְיַכְאָ֖ן וְזִ֣יעַ וָעֵ֑בֶר שִׁבְעָֽה׃

KJVAnd their brethren of the house of their fathers were, Michael, and Meshullam, and Sheba, and Jorai, and Jachan, and Zia, and Heber, seven.

And their kinsmen according to their fathers' houses: Michael, Meshullam, Sheba, Jorai, Jacan, Zia, and Eber, seven.

אֵ֤לֶּה בְנֵי אֲבִיחַ֣יִל בֶּן חוּרִ֔י בֶּן יָרוֹחַ֥ בֶּן גִּלְעָ֖ד בֶּן מִיכָאֵ֑ל בֶּן יְשִׁישַׁ֖י בֶּן יַחְד֥וֹ בֶן בּֽוּז׃

KJVThese are the children of Abihail the son of Huri, the son of Jaroah, the son of Gilead, the son of Michael, the son of Jeshishai, the son of Jahdo, the son of Buz;

These were the sons of Abihail the son of Huri, son of Jaroah, son of Gilead, son of Michael, son of Jeshishai, son of Jahdo, son of Buz;

אֲחִ֤י בֶן עַבְדִּיאֵל֙ בֶּן גּוּנִ֔י רֹ֖אשׁ לְבֵ֣ית אֲבוֹתָ֑ם׃

KJVAhi the son of Abdiel, the son of Guni, chief of the house of their fathers.

Ahi the son of Abdiel, son of Guni, was chief in their fathers' houses.

וַיֵּשְׁב֤וּ בַגִּלְעָד֙ בַּבָּשָׁ֔ן וּבִבְנֹתֶ֖יהָ וּבְכָל מִגְרְשֵׁ֣י שָׁר֑וֹן עַ֖ד תּוֹצְאוֹתָֽם׃

KJVAnd they dwelt in Gilead in Bashan, and in her towns, and in all the suburbs of Sharon, upon their borders.

They lived in Gilead, in Bashan and in its towns, and in all the pasturelands of Sharon to their limits.

כֻּלָּ֣ם הִתְיַחֲשׂ֔וּ בִּימֵ֣י יוֹתָ֔ם מֶ֖לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה וּבִימֵ֖י יָרָבְעָ֥ם מֶֽלֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJVAll these were reckoned by genealogies in the days of Jotham king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam king of Israel.

All of these were enrolled by genealogies in the days of Jotham king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam king of Israel.

בְּנֵי רְאוּבֵ֡ן וְגָ֣ד וַחֲצִ֣י שֵׁבֶט֩ מְנַשֶּׁ֨ה מִן בְּנֵ֤י חַ֙יִל֙ אֲנָשִׁ֣ים נֹשְׂאֵ֣י מָגֵ֣ן וְחֶ֣רֶב וְדֹרְכֵ֣י קֶ֗שֶׁת וּלְמוּדֵ֤י מִלְחָמָה֙ אַרְבָּעָ֣ה וְאַרְבָּעִ֣ים אֶ֔לֶף וּשְׁבַ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת וְשִׁשִּׁ֑ים יֹצְאֵ֖י צָבָֽא׃

KJVThe sons of Reuben, and the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh, of valiant men, men able to bear buckler and sword, and to shoot with bow, and skilful in war, were four and forty thousand seven hundred and threescore, that went out to the war.

The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh had valiant men who carried shield and sword, and drew the bow, expert in war, 44,760, able to go to war.

וַיַּעֲשׂ֤וּ מִלְחָמָה֙ עִם הַהַגְרִיאִ֔ים וְיָט֥וּר וָנֶ֖פֶשׁ וְנוֹדָ֑ב׃

KJVAnd they made war with the Hagarites, with Jetur, and Nephish, and Nodab.

They waged war against the Hagrites, Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab.

וַיֵּעָזְר֣וּ עֲלֵיהֶ֗ם וַיִּנָּתְנ֤וּ בְיָדָם֙ הַהַגְרִיאִ֔ים וְכֹ֖ל שֶׁעִמָּהֶ֑ם כִּ֣י לֵֽאלֹהִ֔ים זָעֲק֖וּ בַּמִּלְחָמָ֑ה וְנַעְתּ֤וֹר לָהֶם֙ כִּ֣י בָטְח֣וּ בּ֑וֹ׃

KJVAnd they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them: for they cried to God in the battle, and he was intreated of them; because they put their trust in him.

And when they prevailed over them, the Hagrites and all who were with them were given into their hands, for they cried out to God in the battle, and he granted their urgent plea because they trusted in him.

וַיִּשְׁבּ֣וּ מִקְנֵיהֶ֗ם גְּמַלֵּיהֶם֙ חֲמִשִּׁ֣ים אֶ֔לֶף וְצֹ֗אן מָאתַ֣יִם וַחֲמִשִּׁ֣ים אֶ֔לֶף וַחֲמוֹרִ֖ים אַלְפָּ֑יִם וְנֶ֥פֶשׁ אָדָ֖ם מֵ֥אָה אָֽלֶף׃

KJVAnd they took away their cattle; of their camels fifty thousand, and of sheep two hundred and fifty thousand, and of asses two thousand, and of men an hundred thousand.

They carried off their livestock: 50,000 camels, 250,000 sheep, 2,000 donkeys, and 100,000 men alive.

כִּ֛י חֲלָלִ֥ים רַבִּ֖ים נָפָ֑לוּ כִּ֣י מֵהָאֱלֹהִ֔ים הַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה וַיֵּשְׁב֥וּ תַחְתֵּיהֶ֖ם עַד הַגָּלֽוּת׃

KJVFor there fell down many slain, because the war was of God. And they dwelt in their steads until the captivity.

For many fell, because the war was of God. And they lived in their place until the exile.

וּבְנֵ֣י חֲצִ֣י שֵׁ֣בֶט מְנַשֶּׁ֗ה יָשְׁב֣וּ בָאָ֔רֶץ מִן בָּשָׁ֖ן עַד בַּ֣עַל חֶרְמ֑וֹן וּשְׂנִ֥יר וְהַ֖ר חֶרְמ֑וֹן הֵ֖ם רָבּֽוּ׃

KJVAnd the children of the half tribe of Manasseh dwelt in the land: they increased from Bashan unto Baalhermon and Senir, and unto mount Hermon.

The members of the half-tribe of Manasseh lived in the land. They were very numerous from Bashan to Baal-hermon, Senir, and Mount Hermon.

וְאֵ֙לֶּה֙ רָאשֵׁ֣י בֵֽית אֲבוֹתָ֔ם עֵ֤פֶר וְיִשְׁעִי֙ וֶאֱלִיאֵ֣ל וְעַזְרִיאֵ֔ל וְיִרְמְיָ֥ה וְהוֹדַוְיָ֖ה וְיַחְדִּיאֵ֑ל אֲנָשִׁ֨ים גִּבּ֜וֹרֵי חַ֗יִל אַנְשֵׁ֤י שֵׁמוֹת֙ רָאשִׁ֔ים לְבֵ֖ית אֲבוֹתָֽם׃

KJVAnd these were the heads of the house of their fathers, even Epher, and Ishi, and Eliel, and Azriel, and Jeremiah, and Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, mighty men of valour, famous men, and heads of the house of their fathers.

These were the heads of their fathers' houses: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, mighty warriors, famous men, heads of their fathers' houses.

וַיִּמְעֲל֗וּ בֵּאלֹהֵ֣י אֲבוֹתֵיהֶ֔ם וַיִּזְנ֕וּ אַחֲרֵ֖י אֱלֹהֵ֣י עַמֵּי הָאָ֑רֶץ אֲשֶׁר הִשְׁמִ֥יד אֱלֹהִ֖ים מִפְּנֵיהֶֽם׃

KJVAnd they transgressed against the God of their fathers, and went a whoring after the gods of the people of the land, whom God destroyed before them.

But they broke faith with the God of their fathers, and whored after the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them.

וַיָּ֗עַר אֱלֹהֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ אֶת ר֣וּחַ פּ֣וּל מֶ֣לֶךְ אַשּׁ֔וּר וְאֶת ר֗וּחַ תִּגְלַת פִּלְנֶ֙סֶר֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ אַשּׁ֔וּר וַיַּגְלֵ֛ם לָרְאוּבֵנִ֥י וְלַגָּדִ֖י וְלַחֲצִ֣י שֵׁ֣בֶט מְנַשֶּׁ֑ה וַיְבִיאֵ֤ם לַחְלַח֙ וְחָב֤וֹר וְהָרָ֙א וּנְהַ֣ר גּוֹזָ֔ן עַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃

KJVAnd the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, even the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, and brought them unto Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and to the river Gozan, unto this day.

So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, the spirit of Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, and he took them into exile, namely, the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, and brought them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and the river Gozan, to this day.
