וַיִּשְׁכַּ֥ב אֲבִיָּ֖ה עִם אֲבֹתָ֑יו וַיִּקְבְּר֣וּ אֹת֡וֹ בְּעִ֣יר דָּוִ֡יד וַיִּמְלֹ֤ךְ אָסָא֙ בְּנ֔וֹ תַּחְתָּ֑יו בְּיָמָ֗יו שָׁקְטָ֛ה הָאָ֖רֶץ עֶ֥שֶׂר שָׁנִֽים׃
KJVSo Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.
Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David. Asa his son reigned in his place. In his days the land had rest for ten years.

וַיַּ֥עַשׂ אָסָ֖א הַטּ֣וֹב וְהַיָּשָׁ֑ר בְּעֵינֵ֖י יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהָֽיו׃
KJVAnd Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God:
And Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God.

וַיָּ֗סַר אֶת מִזְבְּח֣וֹת הַנֵּכָר֡ וְ֠אֶת הַ֠בָּמוֹת וַ֠יְשַׁבֵּר֡ אֶת הַ֠מַּצֵּבוֹת֩ וַ֨יְגַדַּ֜ע אֶת הָ֠אֲשֵׁרִֽים׃
KJVFor he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:
He took away the foreign altars and the high places and broke down the pillars and cut down the Asherim

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לִֽיהוּדָה֙ לִדְר֣וֹשׁ אֶ֣ת יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י אֲבוֹתֵיהֶ֗ם וְ֠לַעֲשׂוֹת הַ֠תּוֹרָ֡ה וְ֠הַמִּצְוָֽה׃
KJVAnd commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.

וַיָּ֜סַר מִכָּ֧ל עָרֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֗ה אֶת הַ֠בָּמ֡וֹת וְ֠אֶת הַ֡חַמָּנִים וַ֠תִּשְׁקֹ֡ט הַ֠מַּמְלָכָ֡ה לְפָנָֽיו׃
KJVAlso he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.
He also took out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the incense altars. And the kingdom had rest under him.

וַיִּ֨בֶן עָרֵ֤י מָצוֹר֙ בִּֽיהוּדָ֔ה כִּ֥י שָׁקְטָ֖ה הָאָ֑רֶץ וְאֵין עִמּ֤וֹ מִלְחָמָה֙ בַּשָּׁנִ֣ים הָ֔אֵ֑לֶּה כִּ֣י הֵנִ֣יחַ לוֹ יְהוָ֖ה׃
KJVAnd he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.
And he built fortified cities in Judah, for the land had rest. He had no war in those years, for the LORD gave him peace.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לִיהוּדָ֡ה נִ֠בְנֶה֩ אֶ֨ת הֶעָרִ֤ים הָאֵ֙לֶּה֙ וְנָסֵ֣ב חוֹמָ֣ה וּמִגְדָּלִ֗ים דְּלָת֤וֹת וּבְרִיחִים֙ עוֹד הָ֔אָרֶץ לְפָנֵ֔ינוּ כִּ֣י דָ֣רַשְׁנוּ אֶת יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹ֣הֵינוּ דָּ֠רַשְׁנוּ וַ֠יָּנַח לָ֠נוּ מִסָּבִ֑יב וַיִּבְנ֥וּ וַיַּצְלִֽיחוּ׃
KJVTherefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.
Therefore he said to Judah: Let us build these cities and surround them with walls and towers, gates and bars. The land is still ours, because we have sought the LORD our God. We have sought him, and he has given us peace on every side. So they built and prospered.

וַיְהִ֣י לְאָסָ֡א חַ֠יִל נֹשֵׂ֡א צִנָּ֠ה וָ֠רֹמַ֡ח מִ֠יהוּדָ֡ה שְׁלֹ֠שׁ מֵ֠אוֹת אֶ֠לֶף וּ֠מִבִנְיָמִ֡ן נֹשְׂאֵ֣י מָגֵ֣ן וְדֹרְכֵ֣י קֶ֠שֶׁת מָאתַ֡יִם וּ֠שְׁמוֹנִ֡ים אָ֠לֶף כָּ֠ל אֵ֡לֶּה גִּבּ֣וֹרֵי חָֽיִל׃
KJVAnd Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valour.
Asa had an army of 300,000 from Judah, armed with large shields and spears, and 280,000 men from Benjamin that carried shields and drew bows. All these were mighty men of valor.

וַיֵּצֵ֣א אֲלֵיהֶ֡ם זֶ֠רַח הַ֠כּוּשִׁי בְּ֠חַ֠יִל אֶ֠לֶף אֲלָפִ֡ים וּ֠שְׁלֹ֡שׁ מֵ֠אוֹת רֶ֡כֶב וַ֠יָּב֡וֹא עַד מָרֵשָֽׁה׃
KJVAnd there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah.
Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them with an army of a million men and 300 chariots, and came as far as Mareshah.

וַיֵּצֵ֤א אָסָא֙ לְ֠פָנָ֡יו וַ֠יַּעַרְכ֡וּ מִלְחָמָ֡ה בְּגֵיא צְפַ֠תָ֡ה לְמָרֵשָֽׁה׃
KJVThen Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.
And Asa went out to meet him, and they drew up their lines of battle in the Valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

וַיִּקְרָ֣א אָסָ֡א אֶל יְהוָ֡ה אֱלֹהָ֠יו וַ֠יֹּאמַ֡ר יְהוָ֡ה אֵ֠ין עִ֠מְּךָ֡ לַ֠עְזוֹר֩ בֵּ֨ין רָ֜ב לְאֵ֣ין כֹּ֑חַ עָזְרֵ֙נוּ֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ כִּ֥י עָלֶ֖יךָ נִשְׁעַ֑נּוּ וּבְשִׁמְךָ֣ בָ֠אנוּ עַל הֶ֠הָמ֡וֹן הַ֠זֶּה יְהוָ֡ה אֱלֹהֵ֡ינוּ אַ֠תָּ֡ה אַל יַ֠עְצֹ֡ר עִמְּךָ֡ אֱנֽוֹשׁ׃
KJVAnd Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.
And Asa cried to the LORD his God: O LORD, there is none like you to help, between the mighty and the weak. Help us, O LORD our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. O LORD, you are our God; let not man prevail against you.

וַיִּגֹּ֤ף יְהוָה֙ אֶת הַ֠כּוּשִׁים֩ לִ֨פְנֵ֜י אָסָ֣א וְ֠לִ֠פְנֵ֡י יְהוּדָ֡ה וַ֠יָּנ֡וּסוּ הַ֠כּוּשִֽׁים׃
KJVSo the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.
So the LORD defeated the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah, and the Ethiopians fled.

וַיִּרְדְּפֵ֣ם אָסָ֡א וְהָעָ֠ם אֲשֶׁ֠ר עִמּ֡וֹ עַ֠ד לִגְרָ֡ר וַ֠יִּפֹּ֡ל מִ֠כּוּשִׁ֡ים לְ֠אֵ֡ין בָּ֠הֶ֡ם מִחְיָ֡ה כִּ֠י נִשְׁבְּר֡וּ לִ֠פְנֵ֡י יְהוָ֡ה וְ֠לִ֡פְנֵי מַחֲנֵ֡הוּ וַ֠יִּשְׂאוּ֩ שָׁלָ֨ל רַב מְ֜אֹד׃
KJVAnd Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.
Asa and the people who were with him pursued them as far as Gerar, and the Ethiopians fell until none remained alive, for they were broken before the LORD and his army. The men of Judah carried away very much spoil.

וַ֠יַּכּ֡וּ אֶ֠ת כָּ֠ל הֶ֠עָרִ֡ים סְבִ֠יב֩וֹת גְּרָ֨ר כִּ֧י הָ֣יָ֨ה פַ֤חַד יְהוָה֙ עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם וַ֠יָּשֹׁ֡סּוּ אֶ֠ת כָּ֠ל הֶ֠עָרִ֡ים כִּ֠י שָׁלָ֡ל רַ֠ב הָ֡יָה בָּהֵֽם׃
KJVAnd they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.
And they attacked all the cities around Gerar, for the fear of the LORD was upon them. They plundered all the cities, for there was much plunder in them.
15
וְגַם אָהֳלֵ֣י מִקְנֶ֡ה הִ֠כּ֡וּ וַ֠יִּשְׁבּ֡וּ צֹ֠אן לָ֠רֹ֡ב וּ֠גְמַלִּ֡ים וַ֠יָּשׁ֡וּבוּ יְרוּשָׁלָֽ͏ִם׃
KJVThey smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
And they also struck down the tents of those who had livestock and carried away sheep in abundance and camels. Then they returned to Jerusalem.
