בִּשְׁנַ֤ת שָׁלוֹשׁ֙ לְמַלְכ֣וּת בֵּלְשַׁאצַּ֔ר הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ חָז֥וֹן נִרְאָ֖ה אֵלַ֑י אֲנִ֣י דָנִיֵּ֔אל אַחֲרֵ֥י הַנִּרְאֶ֖ה אֵלַ֥י בַּתְּחִלָּֽה׃

KJVIn the third year of the reign of king Belshazzar a vision appeared unto me, even unto me Daniel, after that which appeared unto me at the first.

In the third year of the reign of King Belshazzar a vision appeared to me, Daniel, after that which appeared to me at the first.

וָאֶרְאֶ֣ה בֶחָז֔וֹן וַיְהִ֥י בִרְאֹתִ֖י וַאֲנִ֣י בְשׁוּשָׁ֑ן הַבִּירָ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּעֵילָ֑ם וָאֶרְאֶ֣ה בֶחָז֔וֹן וַאֲנִ֣י הָיִ֔יתִי עַל אוּבַ֖ל אוּלָֽי׃

KJVAnd I saw in a vision; and it came to pass, when I saw, that I was at Shushan in the palace, which is in the province of Elam; and I saw in a vision, and I was by the river of Ulai.

And I saw in the vision; and when I saw, I was in Susa the citadel, which is in the province of Elam. And I saw in the vision, and I was at the Ulai canal.

וָאֶשָּׂ֥א עֵינַ֖י וָאֶרְאֶ֑ה וְהִנֵּ֨ה אַ֤יִל אֶחָד֙ עֹמֵ֣ד לִפְנֵ֣י הָאוּבָ֔ל וְל֖וֹ קְרָנָ֑יִם וְהַקְּרָנַ֣יִם גְּבֹה֔וֹת וְהָאַחַ֥ת גְּבֹהָ֖ה מִן הַשֵּׁנִ֑ית וְהַגְּבֹהָ֖ה עֹלָ֥ה בָאַחֲרֹנָֽה׃

KJVThen I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there stood before the river a ram which had two horns: and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last.

I raised my eyes and saw, and behold, a ram standing on the bank of the canal. It had two horns, and both horns were high, but one was higher than the other, and the higher one came up last.

רָאִ֜יתִי אֶת הָאַ֗יִל מְנַגֵּ֙חַ֙ יָ֣מָּה וְצָפ֔וֹנָה וָנֶ֖גְבָּה וְכָל חַיּ֔וֹת לֹ֥א יַעַמְד֖וּ לְפָנָ֑יו וְאֵ֣ין מַצִּ֣יל מִיָּד֑וֹ וְעָשָׂ֥ה כִרְצֹנ֖וֹ וְהִגְדִּֽיל׃

KJVI saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no beasts might stand before him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and became great.

I saw the ram charging westward and northward and southward. No beast could stand before him, and there was no one who could rescue from his power. He did as he pleased and became great.

וַאֲנִ֤י הָיִ֙יתִי֙ מֵבִ֔ין וְהִנֵּ֛ה צְפִ֥יר הָעִזִּ֖ים בָּ֣א מִן הַמַּֽעֲרָ֑ב עַל פְּנֵ֤י כָל הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ וְאֵ֣ין נוֹגֵ֣עַ בָּאָ֑רֶץ וְהַצָּפִ֗יר קֶ֥רֶן חָז֖וּת בֵּ֥ין עֵינָֽיו׃

KJVAnd as I was considering, behold, an he goat came from the west on the face of the whole earth, and touched not the ground: and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes.

As I was considering, behold, a male goat came from the west across the face of the whole earth, without touching the ground. And the goat had a conspicuous horn between his eyes.

וַיָּבֹ֗א עַד הָאַ֙יִל֙ בַּעַל הַקְּרָנַ֔יִם אֲשֶׁ֣ר רָאִ֔יתִי עֹמֵ֖ד לִפְנֵ֣י הָאוּבָ֑ל וַיָּ֥רָץ אֵלָ֖יו בַּחֲמַ֥ת כֹּחֽוֹ׃

KJVAnd he came to the ram that had two horns, which I had seen standing before the river, and ran unto him in the fury of his power.

He came to the ram with the two horns, which I had seen standing on the bank of the canal, and he ran at him in his powerful wrath.

וּרְאִיתִ֨יו מַגִּ֜יעַ אֵ֣צֶל הָאַ֗יִל וַיִּתְמַרְמַ֣ר אֵלָ֔יו וַיַּ֣ךְ אֶת הָאַ֔יִל וַיְשַׁבֵּ֖ר אֶת שְׁתֵּ֣י קְרָנָ֑יו וְלֹא הָיָ֣ה כֹ֣חַ בָּאַ֗יִל לַעֲמֹ֤ד לְפָנָיו֙ וַיַּשְׁלִיכֵ֣הוּ אַ֔רְצָה וַיִּרְמְסֵ֖הוּ וְלֹא הָיָ֥ה מַצִּ֖יל לָאַ֥יִל מִיָּדֽוֹ׃

KJVAnd I saw him come close unto the ram, and he was moved with choler against him, and smote the ram, and brake his two horns: and there was no power in the ram to stand before him, but he cast him down to the ground, and stamped upon him: and there was none that could deliver the ram out of his hand.

I saw him come close to the ram, and he was enraged against him and struck the ram and broke his two horns. And the ram had no power to stand before him, but he cast him down to the ground and trampled on him. And there was no one who could rescue the ram from his power.

וּצְפִ֤יר הָֽעִזִּים֙ הִגְדִּ֣יל עַד מְאֹ֔ד וּכְעָצְמ֖וֹ נִשְׁבְּרָ֣ה הַקֶּ֑רֶן הַגְּדוֹלָ֑ה וַתַּֽעֲלֶ֨נָה חָז֜וּת אַרְבַּ֗ע תַּחְתֶּ֙יהָ֙ לְאַרְבַּ֖ע רוּח֥וֹת הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃

KJVTherefore the he goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and for it came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven.

Then the goat became exceedingly great, but when he was strong, the great horn was broken, and instead of it there came up four conspicuous horns toward the four winds of heaven.

וּמִן הָאַחַ֣ת מֵהֶ֔ם יָצָ֥א קֶ֖רֶן אַחַ֣ת מִצְּעִ֑ירָה וַתִּגְדַּל יֶ֙תֶר֙ אֶל הַנֶּ֔גֶב וְאֶל הַמִּזְרָ֖ח וְאֶל הַצָּבִֽי׃

KJVAnd out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land.

Out of one of them came a little horn, which grew exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the glorious land.

וַתִּגְדַּ֖ל עַד צְבָ֣א הַשָּׁמַ֑יִם וַתַּפֵּ֧ל אַ֛רְצָה מִן הַצָּבָ֖א וּמִן הַכּוֹכָבִ֖ים וַתִּרְמְסֵ֥ם׃

KJVAnd it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them.

It grew great, even to the host of heaven. And some of the host and some of the stars it threw down to the ground and trampled on them.

וְעַד֙ שַׂ֣ר הַצָּבָ֔א הִגְדִּ֑יל וּמִמֶּ֗נּוּ הרִ֛ים הַתָּמִ֖יד וְהֻשְׁלַ֥ךְ מְכ֖וֹן מִקְדָּשֽׁוֹ׃

KJVYea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.

It became great, even as great as the Prince of the host. And the regular burnt offering was taken away from him, and the place of his sanctuary was overthrown.

וְצָבָ֛א תִּנָּתֵ֥ן עַל הַתָּמִ֖יד בְּפָ֑שַׁע וְתַשְׁלֵ֤ךְ אֱמֶת֙ אַ֔רְצָה וְעָשְׂתָ֖ה וְהִצְלִֽיחָה׃

KJVAnd an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered.

And a host will be given over to it together with the regular burnt offering because of transgression, and it will throw truth to the ground, and it will act and prosper.

וָאֶשְׁמְעָ֣ה אֶחָ֣ד קָד֔וֹשׁ מְדַבֵּ֑ר וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֶחָ֤ד קָדוֹשׁ֙ לַפַּלְמוֹנִ֔י הַמְדַבֵּ֑ר עַד מָתַ֣י הֶחָז֣וֹן הַתָּמִ֡יד וְהַפֶּ֣שַׁע שֹׁמֵ֣ם תֵּ֡ת וְקֹ֣דֶשׁ וְצָבָ֡א מִרְמָֽס׃

KJVThen I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?

Then I heard a holy one speaking, and another holy one said to the one who spoke: For how long is the vision concerning the regular burnt offering, the transgression that makes desolate, and the giving over of the sanctuary and host to be trampled underfoot?

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֵלַ֖י עַ֚ד עֶ֣רֶב בֹּ֔קֶר אַלְפַּ֖יִם וּשְׁלֹ֣שׁ מֵא֑וֹת וְנִצְדַּ֖ק קֹֽדֶשׁ׃

KJVAnd he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.

And he said to me: For 2,300 evenings and mornings. Then the sanctuary shall be restored to its rightful state.

וַיְהִ֣י בִּרְאֹתִ֗י אֲנִ֤י דָנִיֵּאל֙ אֶת הֶחָז֔וֹן וָאֲבַקְשָׁ֖ה בִינָ֑ה וְהִנֵּ֛ה עֹמֵ֥ד לְנֶגְדִּ֖י כְּמַרְאֵ֥ה גָבֶֽר׃

KJVAnd it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, and sought for the meaning, then, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man.

When I, Daniel, had seen the vision, I sought to understand it. And behold, there stood before me one having the appearance of a man.

וָאֶשְׁמַ֣ע קוֹל אָדָ֔ם בֵּ֖ין אוּלָ֑י וַיִּקְרָ֕א וַיֹּאמַ֕ר גַּבְרִיאֵ֕ל הָבֵ֧ן לְהַלָּ֛ז אֶת הַמַּרְאֶֽה׃

KJVAnd I heard a man's voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.

And I heard a man's voice between the banks of the Ulai, and it called: Gabriel, make this man understand the vision.

וַיָּבֹ֣א אֵ֣צֶל עָמְדִ֣י וּבְבֹא֣וֹ נִבְעַ֡תִּי וָאֶפְּלָ֣ה עַ֡ל פָּנַ֡י וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלַ֡י הָבֵ֣ן בֶּן אָדָ֡ם כִּ֣י לְעֶת קֵ֣ץ הֶחָז֡וֹן׃

KJVSo he came near where I stood: and when he came, I was afraid, and fell upon my face: but he said unto me, Understand, O son of man: for at the time of the end shall be the vision.

So he came near where I stood. And when he came, I was frightened and fell on my face. But he said to me: Understand, O son of man, that the vision is for the time of the end.

וּבְדַבְּר֣וֹ עִמִּ֗י נִרְדַּ֙מְתִּי֙ עַל פָּנַ֔י וַיִּגַּ֥ע בִּ֖י וַיַּעֲמִידֵ֥נִי עַל עָמְדִֽי׃

KJVNow as he was speaking with me, I was in a deep sleep on my face toward the ground: but he touched me, and set me upright.

And when he spoke with me, I fell into a deep sleep with my face to the ground. But he touched me and made me stand up.

וַיֹּ֕אמֶר הִנְנִ֥י מוֹדִיעֲךָ֖ אֵ֣ת אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִהְיֶ֣ה בְּאַחֲרִ֣ית הַזָּ֑עַם כִּ֖י לְמוֹעֵ֥ד קֵ֖ץ׃

KJVAnd he said, Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be.

He said: Behold, I will make known to you what shall be at the latter end of the indignation, for it refers to the appointed time of the end.

הָאַ֙יִל֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר רָאִ֔יתָ בַּ֖עַל הַקְּרָנַ֑יִם מַלְכֵ֖י מָדַ֥י וּפָרָֽס׃

KJVThe ram which thou sawest having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia.

As for the ram that you saw with the two horns, these are the kings of Media and Persia.

וְהַצָּפִ֥יר הַשָּׂעִ֖יר מֶ֣לֶךְ יָוָ֑ן וְהַקֶּ֤רֶן הַגְּדוֹלָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בֵּ֣ין עֵינָ֔יו ה֖וּא הַמֶּ֥לֶךְ הָרִאשֽׁוֹן׃

KJVAnd the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king.

And the goat is the king of Greece. And the great horn between his eyes is the first king.

וְהַנִּשְׁבֶּ֙רֶת֙ וַתַּעֲמֹ֣דְנָה אַרְבַּ֣ע תַּחְתֶּ֔יהָ אַרְבַּ֤ע מַלְכֻיּוֹת֙ מִגּ֣וֹי יַעֲמֹ֔דְנָה וְלֹ֖א בְּכֹח֥וֹ׃

KJVNow that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power.

As for the horn that was broken, in place of which four others arose, four kingdoms shall arise from his nation, but not with his power.

וּבְאַחֲרִ֣ית מַלְכוּתָ֔ם כְּהָתֵ֖ם הַפֹּשְׁעִ֑ים יַעֲמֹ֤ד מֶ֙לֶךְ֙ עַז פָּנִ֔ים וּמֵבִ֖ין חִידֽוֹת׃

KJVAnd in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.

And at the latter end of their kingdom, when the transgressors have reached their limit, a king of bold face, one who understands riddles, shall arise.

וְעָצַ֨ם כֹּח֜וֹ וְלֹ֤א בְכֹחוֹ֙ וְנִפְלָאֹ֣ות יַשְׁחִ֔ית וְהִצְלִ֖יחַ וְעָשָׂ֑ה וְהִשְׁחִ֤ית עֲצוּמִים֙ וְעַם קְדֹשִֽׁים׃

KJVAnd his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.

His power shall be great—but not by his own power; and he shall cause fearful destruction and shall succeed in what he does, and destroy mighty men and the people who are the saints.

וְעַל שִׂכְל֗וֹ וְהִצְלִ֤יחַ מִרְמָה֙ בְּיָד֔וֹ וּבִלְבָב֥וֹ יַגְדִּ֖יל וּבְשַׁלְוָ֣ה יַשְׁחִ֣ית רַבִּ֑ים וְעַ֣ל שַׂ֣ר שָׂרִ֡ים יַעֲמֹ֡ד וּבְאֶ֣פֶס יָ֡ד יִשָּׁבֵֽר׃

KJVAnd through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.

By his cunning he shall make deceit prosper under his hand, and in his own mind he shall become great. Without warning he shall destroy many. And he shall even rise up against the Prince of princes, and he shall be broken—but by no human hand.

וּמַרְאֵ֤ה הָעֶ֙רֶב֙ וְהַבֹּ֔קֶר אֲשֶׁ֖ר נֶאֱמָ֑ר אֱמֶ֣ת ה֔וּא וְאַתָּ֛ה סְתֹ֥ם הֶחָז֖וֹן כִּ֥י לְיָמִ֖ים רַבִּֽים׃

KJVAnd the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days.

The vision of the evenings and the mornings that has been told is true, but seal up the vision, for it refers to many days from now.

וַאֲנִ֤י דָנִיֵּאל֙ נִהְיֵ֔יתִי וְחָלִ֖יתִי יָמִ֑ים וָאָק֗וּם וָאֶעֱשֶׂ֞ה אֶת מְלֶ֣אכֶת הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וָאֶשְׁתּוֹמֵ֖ם עַל הַמַּרְאֶ֥ה וְאֵ֥ין מֵבִֽין׃

KJVAnd I Daniel fainted, and was sick certain days; afterward I rose up, and did the king's business; and I was astonished at the vision, but none understood it.

And I, Daniel, was overcome and lay sick for some days. Then I rose and went about the king's business, but I was appalled by the vision and did not understand it.
