וַיַּ֥עַן צוֹפַ֖ר הַנַּעֲמָתִ֑י וַיֹּאמַֽר׃
KJVThen answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,
Then Zophar the Naamathite answered and said:
2
לָכֵ֤ן שְׂעִפַּ֗י יְשִׁיב֣וּנַי וּֽ֝בַעֲב֗וּר חוּשִׁ֥י בִֽי׃
KJVTherefore do my thoughts cause me to answer, and for this I make haste.
Therefore my thoughts answer me, because of my haste within me.

מוּסַ֣ר כְּ֭לִמָּתִי אֶשְׁמָ֑ע וְר֥וּחַ מִ֝בִּינָתִ֗י יַעֲנֵֽנִי׃
KJVI have heard the check of my reproach, and the spirit of my understanding causeth me to answer.
I hear censure that insults me, and out of my understanding a spirit answers me.

הֲזֹ֣את יָ֭דַעְתָּ מִנִּי עַ֑ד מִנִּ֖י שִׂ֣ים אָדָ֣ם עֲלֵי אָֽרֶץ׃
KJVKnowest thou not this of old, since man was placed upon earth,
Do you not know this from of old, since man was placed on earth,
5
כִּ֤י רִנְנַ֣ת רְ֭שָׁעִים מִקָּר֑וֹב וְשִׂמְחַ֥ת חָ֝נֵ֗ף עֲדֵי אָֽרֶץ׃
KJVThat the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?
that the exulting of the wicked is short, and the joy of the godless but for a moment?

אִם יַעֲלֶ֣ה לַשָּׁמַ֣יִם שִׂיא֑וֹ וְ֝רֹאשׁ֗וֹ לָעָ֥ב יַגִּֽיעַ׃
KJVThough his excellency mount up to the heavens, and his head reach unto the clouds;
Though his height mount up to the heavens, and his head reach to the clouds,
7
כְּגֶלֲּלוֹ֙ לָנֶ֣צַח יֹאבֵ֔ד רֹאָ֖יו יֹאמְר֥וּ אַיּֽוֹ׃
KJVYet he shall perish for ever like his own dung: they which have seen him shall say, Where is he?
he will perish forever like his own dung; those who have seen him will say: Where is he?

כַּחֲל֣וֹם יָ֭עוּף וְלֹ֣א יִמְצָאֻ֑הוּ וְ֝יֻדַּ֗ד כְּחֶזְי֥וֹן לָֽיְלָה׃
KJVHe shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found: yea, he shall be chased away as a vision of the night.
He will fly away like a dream and not be found; he will be chased away like a vision of the night.

עַ֭יִן שְׁזָפַ֣תּוּ וְלֹ֣א תוֹסִ֑יף וְלֹא עוֹד תְּ֝שׁוּרֶ֗נּוּ מְקֹמֽוֹ׃
KJVThe eye also which saw him shall see him no more; neither shall his place any more behold him.
The eye that saw him will see him no more, nor will his place any more behold him.
10
בָּנָ֭יו יְרַצּ֣וּ דַלִּ֑ים וְ֝יָדָ֗יו תָּשֵׁ֥בְנָה אוֹנֽוֹ׃
KJVHis children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods.
His children will seek the favor of the poor, and his hands will give back his wealth.
11
עֲ֭צָמוֹתָיו מָלְא֣וּ עֲלוּמ֑וֹ וְ֝עִמּ֗וֹ עַל עָפָ֥ר תִּשְׁכָּֽב׃
KJVHis bones are full of the sin of his youth, which shall lie down with him in the dust.
His bones are full of his youthful vigor, but it will lie down with him in the dust.
12
אִם תַּמְתִּ֣יק בְּ֭פִיו רָעָ֑ה יַכְחִידֶ֥נָּה תַ֝חַ֗ת לְשׁוֹנֽוֹ׃
KJVThough wickedness be sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue;
Though evil is sweet in his mouth, though he hides it under his tongue,
13
יַחְמֹ֣ל עָ֭לֶיהָ וְלֹ֣א יַעַזְבֶ֑נָּה וְ֝יִמְנָעֶ֗נָּה בְּת֣וֹךְ חִכּֽוֹ׃
KJVThough he spare it, and forsake it not; but keep it still within his mouth:
though he is loath to let it go and holds it in his mouth,
14
לַחְמ֑וֹ בְּ֝מֵעָ֗יו נֶהְפָּ֑ךְ מְרוֹרַ֥ת פְּ֝תָנִ֗ים בְּקִרְבּֽוֹ׃
KJVYet his meat in his bowels is turned, it is the gall of asps within him.
yet his food is turned in his stomach; it is the venom of cobras within him.
15
חַ֭יִל בָּלַ֣ע וַיְקִאֶ֑נּוּ מִ֝בִּטְנ֗וֹ יֹרִשֶׁ֥נּוּ אֵֽל׃
KJVHe hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly.
He swallows down riches and vomits them up again; God casts them out of his belly.
16
רֹ֣אשׁ פְּ֭תָנִים יִינָ֑ק תַּ֝הַרְגֵ֗הוּ לְשׁ֣וֹן אֶפְעֶֽה׃
KJVHe shall suck the poison of asps: the viper's tongue shall slay him.
He will suck the poison of cobras; the tongue of a viper will kill him.
17
אַל יֵ֭רֶא בִּפְלַגּ֣וֹת נַהֲרֵי נַחֲלֵ֣י דְבַ֣שׁ וְחֶמְאָֽה׃
KJVHe shall not see the rivers, the floods, the brooks of honey and butter.
He will not look upon the rivers, the streams flowing with honey and curds.
18
מֵשִׁ֥יב יָגָ֗ע וְלֹ֥א יִבְלָ֑ע כְּחֵ֥יל תְּ֝מוּרָת֗וֹ וְלֹ֣א יַעֲלֹֽס׃
KJVThat which he laboured for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it down: according to his substance shall the restitution be, and he shall not rejoice therein.
He will give back the fruit of his toil and will not swallow it down; from the profit of his trading he will get no enjoyment.
19
כִּי רִצַּ֣ץ עָזַ֣ב דַּלִּ֑ים בַּ֝יִת גָּזַ֗ל וְלֹ֣א יְבַנֵּֽהוּ׃
KJVBecause he hath oppressed and hath forsaken the poor; because he hath violently taken away an house which he builded not;
For he has crushed and abandoned the poor; he has seized a house that he did not build.
20
כִּ֤י לֹא יָדַ֣ע שָׁ֭לֵו בְּבִטְנ֑וֹ בַּ֝חֲמוּד֗וֹ לֹ֣א יְמַלֵּֽט׃
KJVSurely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired.
Because he knew no contentment in his belly, he will not let anything in which he delights escape him.
21
אֵ֭ין שָׂרִ֣יד לְאָכְל֑וֹ עַל כֵּ֥ן לֹ֝א יָחִ֗יל טוּבֽוֹ׃
KJVThere shall none of his meat be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods.
There was nothing left after he had eaten; therefore his prosperity will not endure.
22
בִּמְלֹ֣אות שְׂ֭פָקוֹ יֵ֣צֶר ל֑וֹ כָּל יַ֥ד עָ֝מֵ֗ל תָּבֹ֥א עָלָֽיו׃
KJVIn the fulness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: every hand of the wicked shall come upon him.
In the fullness of his sufficiency he will be in distress; the hand of everyone in misery will come against him.
23
יְהִ֤י ׀ לְמַלֵּ֬א בִטְנ֗וֹ יְֽשַׁלַּח בּ֥וֹ חֲר֥וֹן אַפּ֑וֹ וְ֝יַמְטֵ֗ר עָלֵ֥ימוֹ בִּלְחֽוּמוֹ׃
KJVWhen he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath upon him, and shall rain it upon him while he is eating.
To fill his belly to the full, God will send his burning anger against him and rain it upon him into his body.
24
יִבְרַ֣ח מִנֵּ֣שֶׁק בַּרְזֶ֑ל תַּ֝חְלְפֵ֗הוּ קֶ֣שֶׁת נְחוּשָֽׁה׃
KJVHe shall flee from the iron weapon, and the bow of steel shall strike him through.
He will flee from an iron weapon; a bronze arrow will strike him through.
25
שָׁלַ֤ף ׀ וַיֵּצֵ֬א מִגֵּוָ֗ה וּ֭בָרָק מִמְּרֹרָ֣תוֹ יַהֲלֹ֑ךְ עָלָ֥יו אֵ֝מִ֗ים׃
KJVIt is drawn, and cometh out of the body; yea, the glittering sword cometh out of his gall: terrors are upon him.
It is drawn forth and comes out of his body; the glittering point comes out of his gallbladder; terrors come upon him.
26
כָּל חֹ֭שֶׁךְ טָמ֣וּן לִצְפּוּנָ֑יו תְּ֝אָכְלֵ֗הוּ אֵשׁ לֹא נֻפָּ֗ח יֵרַ֥ע שָׂרִ֗יד בְּאָהֳלֽוֹ׃
KJVAll darkness shall be hid in his secret places: a fire not blown shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle.
Utter darkness is laid up for his treasures; a fire not fanned will devour him; what is left in his tent will be consumed.
27
יְגַלּ֣וּ שָׁמַ֣יִם עֲוֺנ֑וֹ וְ֝אֶ֗רֶץ מִתְקוֹמֶ֥מֶת לֽוֹ׃
KJVThe heaven shall reveal his iniquity; and the earth shall rise up against him.
The heavens will reveal his iniquity, and the earth will rise up against him.
28
יִגֶּ֣ל יְ֭בוּל בֵּית֑וֹ נִ֝גָּר֗וֹת בְּי֣וֹם אַפּֽוֹ׃
KJVThe increase of his house shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath.
The possessions of his house will be carried away, dragged off in the day of God's wrath.
29
זֶ֤ה חֵֽלֶק אָדָ֣ם רָשָׁ֣ע מֵאֱלֹהִ֑ים וְנַחֲלַ֥ת אִ֝מְר֗וֹ מֵאֵֽל׃
KJVThis is the portion of a wicked man from God, and the heritage appointed unto him by God.
This is the wicked man's portion from God, the heritage decreed for him by God.
