זְכֹ֤ר יְהוָה֙ מֶה הָ֣יָה לָ֔נוּ הַבִּ֖יטָה וּרְאֵ֥ה אֶת חֶרְפָּתֵֽנוּ׃
KJVRemember, O LORD, what is come upon us: consider, and behold our reproach.
Remember, O LORD, what has befallen us; look, and see our disgrace!

נַחֲלָתֵ֙נוּ֙ נֶהֶפְכָ֣ה לְזָרִ֔ים בָּתֵּ֖ינוּ לְנָכְרִֽים׃
KJVOur inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliens.
Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers, our homes to foreigners.

יְתוֹמִ֣ים הָיִ֔ינוּ וְאֵ֖ין אָ֑ב אִמֹּתֵ֖ינוּ כְּאַלְמָנֽוֹת׃
KJVWe are orphans and fatherless, our mothers are as widows.
We have become orphans, fatherless; our mothers are like widows.

מֵימֵ֤ינוּ בְּכֶ֙סֶף֙ שָׁתִ֔ינוּ עֵצֵ֖ינוּ בִּמְחִ֥יר יָבֹֽאוּ׃
KJVWe have drunken our water for money; our wood is sold unto us.
We must pay for the water we drink; the wood we get must be bought.
5
עַל צַוָּארֵ֙נוּ֙ נִרְדָּ֔פְנוּ יָגַ֖עְנוּ וְלֹ֥א הֽוּנַּח לָֽנוּ׃
KJVOur necks are under persecution: we labour, and have no rest.
Our pursuers are at our necks; we are weary; we are given no rest.

מִצְרַ֤יִם נָתַ֙נּוּ֙ יָ֔ד אַשּׁ֖וּר לִשְׂבֹּ֥עַ לָֽחֶם׃
KJVWe have given the hand to the Egyptians, and to the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread.
We have given the hand to Egypt, and to Assyria, to get bread enough.

אֲבֹתֵ֙ינוּ֙ חָטְא֣וּ וְאֵינָ֔ם וַאֲנַ֖חְנוּ עֲוֺנֹתֵיהֶ֥ם סָבָֽלְנוּ׃
KJVOur fathers have sinned, and are not; and we have borne their iniquities.
Our fathers sinned, and are no more; and we bear their iniquities.

עֲבָדִ֖ים מָשְׁל֣וּ בָ֑נוּ פֹּרֵ֖ק אֵ֥ין מִיָּדָֽם׃
KJVServants have ruled over us: there is none that doth deliver us out of their hand.
Servants rule over us; there is none to deliver us from their hand.
9
בְּנַפְשֵׁ֙נוּ֙ נָבִ֣יא לַחְמֵ֔נוּ מִפְּנֵ֖י חֶ֥רֶב הַמִּדְבָּֽר׃
KJVWe gat our bread with the peril of our lives because of the sword of the wilderness.
We get our bread at the risk of our lives, because of the sword in the wilderness.
10
עוֹרֵ֕נוּ כְּתַנּ֖וּר נִכְמָ֑רוּ מִפְּנֵ֖י זַלְעֲפ֥וֹת רָעָֽב׃
KJVOur skin was black like an oven because of the terrible famine.
Our skin is hot as an oven with the burning heat of famine.
11
נָשִׁ֤ים בְּצִיּוֹן֙ עִנּ֔וּ בְּתֻל֖וֹת בְּעָרֵ֥י יְהוּדָֽה׃
KJVThey ravished the women in Zion, and the maids in the cities of Judah.
Women are raped in Zion, young women in the towns of Judah.

שָׂרִ֤ים בְּיָדָם֙ נִתְל֔וּ פְּנֵ֣י זְקֵנִ֔ים לֹ֥א נֶהְדָּֽרוּ׃
KJVPrinces are hanged up by their hand: the faces of elders were not honoured.
Princes are hung up by their hands; no respect is shown to the elders.
13
בַּחוּרִ֖ים טְח֣וֹן נָשָׂ֑אוּ וּנְעָרִ֖ים בָּעֵ֥ץ כָּשָֽׁלוּ׃
KJVThey took the young men to grind, and the children fell under the wood.
Young men are compelled to grind at the mill, and boys stagger under loads of wood.
14
זְקֵנִ֗ים מִשַּׁ֙עַר֙ שָׁבָ֔תוּ בַּחוּרִ֖ים מִנְּגִינָתָֽם׃
KJVThe elders have ceased from the gate, the young men from their musick.
The elders have left the city gate, the young men their music.
15
שָׁבַ֗ת מְשׂ֛וֹשׂ לִבֵּ֖נוּ נֶהְפַּ֥ךְ לְאֵ֥בֶל מְחֹלֵֽנוּ׃
KJVThe joy of our heart is ceased; our dance is turned into mourning.
The joy of our hearts has ceased; our dancing has been turned to mourning.
16
נָפְלָ֞ה עֲטֶ֤רֶת רֹאשֵׁ֙נוּ֙ א֣וֹי נָ֔א לָ֖נוּ כִּ֥י חָטָֽאנוּ׃
KJVThe crown is fallen from our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned!
The crown has fallen from our head; woe to us, for we have sinned!
17
עַל זֶ֛ה הָיָ֥ה דָוֶ֖ה לִבֵּ֑נוּ עַל אֵ֖לֶּה חָשְׁכ֥וּ עֵינֵֽינוּ׃
KJVFor this our heart is faint; for these things our eyes are dim.
For this our heart has become sick, for these things our eyes have grown dim.
18
עַ֚ל הַר צִיּ֔וֹן שֶׁשָּׁמֵ֖ם שׁוּעָלִ֥ים הִלְּכוּ בֽוֹ׃
KJVBecause of the mountain of Zion, which is desolate, the foxes walk upon it.
For Mount Zion which lies desolate; foxes prowl over it.
19
אַתָּ֤ה יְהוָה֙ לְעוֹלָ֣ם תֵּשֵׁ֔ב כִּסְאֲךָ֖ לְדֹ֥ר וָדֽוֹר׃
KJVThou, O LORD, remainest for ever; thy throne from generation to generation.
But you, O LORD, reign forever; your throne endures to all generations.
20
לָ֧מָּה לָנֶ֛צַח תִּשְׁכָּחֵ֖נוּ תַּעַזְבֵ֥נוּ לְאֹ֖רֶךְ יָמִֽים׃
KJVWherefore dost thou forget us for ever, and forsake us so long time?
Why do you forget us forever, why do you forsake us for so many days?
21
הֲשִׁיבֵ֤נוּ יְהוָה֙ אֵלֶ֔יךָ וְנָשׁ֑וּבָה חַדֵּ֥שׁ יָמֵ֖ינוּ כְּקֶֽדֶם׃
KJVTurn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.
Restore us to yourself, O LORD, that we may be restored! Renew our days as of old—
22
כִּ֣י אִם מָאֹ֣ס מְאַסְתָּ֔נוּ קָצַ֥פְתָּ עָלֵ֖ינוּ עַד מְאֹֽד׃
KJVBut thou hast utterly rejected us; thou art very wroth against us.
unless you have utterly rejected us, and you remain exceedingly angry with us.
