1
KJVIt is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.
It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that even pagans do not tolerate: A man is sleeping with his father's wife.
2
KJVAnd ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.
And you are proud! Shouldn't you rather have gone into mourning and have put out of your fellowship the man who has been doing this?
3
KJVFor I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,
For my part, even though I am not physically present, I am with you in spirit. As one who is present with you in this way, I have already passed judgment in the name of our Lord Jesus on the one who has been doing this.
4
KJVIn the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,
So when you are assembled and I am with you in spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present,
5
KJVTo deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
hand this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord.
6
Οὐ καλὸν τὸ καύχημα ὑμῶν. Οὐκ οἴδατε ὅτι μικρὰ ζύμη ὅλον τὸ φύραμα ζυμοῖ;
KJVYour glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?
Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough?
7
KJVPurge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch — as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.
8
KJVTherefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old bread leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
9
KJVI wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:
I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people —
10
KJVYet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.
not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world.
11
KJVBut now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.
But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people.
12
Τί γάρ μοι καὶ τοὺς ἔξω κρίνειν; Οὐχὶ τοὺς ἔσω ὑμεῖς κρίνετε;
KJVFor what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?
What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?
13
KJVBut them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
God will judge those outside. Expel the wicked person from among you.
