Τὸ λοιπόν, προσεύχεσθε, ἀδελφοί, περὶ ἡμῶν, ἵνα ὁ λόγος τοῦ Κυρίου τρέχῃ καὶ δοξάζηται, καθὼς καὶ πρὸς ὑμᾶς,

KJVFinally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you:

As for other matters, brothers and sisters, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you.

καὶ ἵνα ῥυσθῶμεν ἀπὸ τῶν ἀτόπων καὶ πονηρῶν ἀνθρώπων· οὐ γὰρ πάντων ἡ πίστις.

KJVAnd that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith.

And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people, for not everyone has faith.

Πιστὸς δέ ἐστιν ὁ Κύριος, ὃς στηρίξει ὑμᾶς καὶ φυλάξει ἀπὸ τοῦ πονηροῦ.

KJVBut the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.

But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.

Πεποίθαμεν δὲ ἐν Κυρίῳ ἐφ' ὑμᾶς, ὅτι ἃ παραγγέλλομεν ὑμῖν, καὶ ποιεῖτε καὶ ποιήσετε.

KJVAnd we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you.

We have confidence in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we command.

Ὁ δὲ Κύριος κατευθύναι ὑμῶν τὰς καρδίας εἰς τὴν ἀγάπην τοῦ Θεοῦ, καὶ εἰς τὴν ὑπομονὴν τοῦ Χριστοῦ.

KJVAnd the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.

May the Lord direct your hearts into God's love and Christ's perseverance.

Παραγγέλλομεν δὲ ὑμῖν, ἀδελφοί, ἐν ὀνόματι τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, στέλλεσθαι ὑμᾶς ἀπὸ παντὸς ἀδελφοῦ ἀτάκτως περιπατοῦντος, καὶ μὴ κατὰ τὴν παράδοσιν ἣν παρέλαβον παρ' ἡμῶν.

KJVNow we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers and sisters, to keep away from every believer who is idle and disruptive and does not live according to the teaching you received from us.

Αὐτοὶ γὰρ οἴδατε πῶς δεῖ μιμεῖσθαι ἡμᾶς· ὅτι οὐκ ἠτακτήσαμεν ἐν ὑμῖν,

KJVFor yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;

For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you,

οὐδὲ δωρεὰν ἄρτον ἐφάγομεν παρά τινος, ἀλλ' ἐν κόπῳ καὶ μόχθῳ, νύκτα καὶ ἡμέραν ἐργαζόμενοι, πρὸς τὸ μὴ ἐπιβαρῆσαί τινα ὑμῶν·

KJVNeither did we eat any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you:

nor did we eat anyone's food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you.

οὐχ ὅτι οὐκ ἔχομεν ἐξουσίαν, ἀλλ' ἵνα ἑαυτοὺς τύπον δῶμεν ὑμῖν εἰς τὸ μιμεῖσθαι ἡμᾶς.

KJVNot because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us.

We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate.

ὅτι εἴ τις οὐ θέλει ἐργάζεσθαι, μηδὲ ἐσθιέτω.

KJVFor even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.

Ἀκούομεν γάρ τινας περιπατοῦντας ἐν ὑμῖν ἀτάκτως, μηδὲν ἐργαζομένους, ἀλλὰ περιεργαζομένους.

KJVFor we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.

We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies.

Τοῖς δὲ τοιούτοις παραγγέλλομεν καὶ παρακαλοῦμεν διὰ τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, ἵνα μετὰ ἡσυχίας ἐργαζόμενοι τὸν ἑαυτῶν ἄρτον ἐσθίωσιν.

KJVNow them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.

Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat.

Ὑμεῖς δέ, ἀδελφοί, μὴ ἐκκακήσητε καλοποιοῦντες.

KJVBut ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.

And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good.

Εἰ δέ τις οὐχ ὑπακούει τῷ λόγῳ ἡμῶν διὰ τῆς ἐπιστολῆς, τοῦτον σημειοῦσθε, καὶ μὴ συναναμίγνυσθε αὐτῷ, ἵνα ἐντραπῇ,

KJVAnd if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.

Take special note of anyone who does not obey our instruction in this letter. Do not associate with them, in order that they may feel ashamed.

καὶ μὴ ὡς ἐχθρὸν ἡγεῖσθε, ἀλλὰ νουθετεῖτε ὡς ἀδελφόν.

KJVYet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

Yet do not regard them as an enemy, but warn them as you would a fellow believer.

Αὐτὸς δὲ ὁ Κύριος τῆς εἰρήνης δῴη ὑμῖν τὴν εἰρήνην διὰ παντὸς ἐν παντὶ τρόπῳ. Ὁ Κύριος μετὰ πάντων ὑμῶν.

KJVNow the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.

Ὁ ἀσπασμὸς τῇ ἐμῇ χειρὶ Παύλου, ὅ ἐστιν σημεῖον ἐν πάσῃ ἐπιστολῇ· οὕτως γράφω.

KJVThe salutation of Paul with mine own hand, which is the token in every epistle: so I write.

I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand, which is the distinguishing mark in all my letters. This is how I write.

Ἡ χάρις τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ μετὰ πάντων ὑμῶν. ἀμήν.

KJVThe grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
