Ὅθεν, ἀδελφοὶ ἅγιοι, κλήσεως ἐπουρανίου μέτοχοι, κατανοήσατε τὸν ἀπόστολον καὶ ἀρχιερέα τῆς ὁμολογίας ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦν Χριστόν,

KJVWherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.

πιστὸν ὄντα τῷ ποιήσαντι αὐτόν, ὡς καὶ Μωϋσῆς ἐν ὅλῳ τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ.

KJVWho was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.

He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God's house.

Πλείονος γὰρ δόξης οὗτος παρὰ Μωϋσῆν ἠξίωται, καθ' ὅσον πλείονα τιμὴν ἔχει τοῦ οἴκου ὁ κατασκευάσας αὐτόν.

KJVFor this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.

Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.

Πᾶς γὰρ οἶκος κατασκευάζεται ὑπό τινος· ὁ δὲ τὰ πάντα κατασκευάσας Θεός.

KJVFor every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.

For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.

Καὶ Μωϋσῆς μὲν πιστὸς ἐν ὅλῳ τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ ὡς θεράπων, εἰς μαρτύριον τῶν λαληθησομένων·

KJVAnd Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;

In his own house Moses was faithful as a servant, as a testimony to what would be said in the future.

Χριστὸς δὲ ὡς υἱὸς ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ· οὗ οἶκός ἐσμεν ἡμεῖς, ἐάνπερ τὴν παρρησίαν καὶ τὸ καύχημα τῆς ἐλπίδος μέχρι τέλους βεβαίαν κατάσχωμεν.

KJVBut Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.

But Christ is faithful as the Son over God's house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.

Διό, καθὼς λέγει τὸ Πνεῦμα τὸ ἅγιον, Σήμερον ἐὰν τῆς φωνῆς αὐτοῦ ἀκούσητε,

KJVWherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,

So, as the Holy Spirit says: Today, if you hear his voice,

μὴ σκληρύνητε τὰς καρδίας ὑμῶν, ὡς ἐν τῷ παραπικρασμῷ, κατὰ τὴν ἡμέραν τοῦ πειρασμοῦ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ,

KJVHarden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:

do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the wilderness,

οὗ ἐπείρασάν με οἱ πατέρες ὑμῶν, ἐδοκίμασάν με, καὶ εἶδον τὰ ἔργα μου τεσσαράκοντα ἔτη.

KJVWhen your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.

where your ancestors tested and tried me, though for forty years they saw what I did.

Διὸ προσώχθισα τῇ γενεᾷ ἐκείνῃ, καὶ εἶπον, Ἀεὶ πλανῶνται τῇ καρδίᾳ· αὐτοὶ δὲ οὐκ ἔγνωσαν τὰς ὁδούς μου·

KJVWherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.

That is why I was angry with that generation; I said, Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known my ways.

ὡς ὤμοσα ἐν τῇ ὀργῇ μου, Εἰ εἰσελεύσονται εἰς τὴν κατάπαυσίν μου.

KJVSo I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)

So I declared on oath in my anger, They shall never enter my rest.

Βλέπετε, ἀδελφοί, μήποτε ἔσται ἔν τινι ὑμῶν καρδία πονηρὰ ἀπιστίας ἐν τῷ ἀποστῆναι ἀπὸ Θεοῦ ζῶντος·

KJVTake heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.

ἀλλὰ παρακαλεῖτε ἑαυτοὺς καθ' ἑκάστην ἡμέραν, ἄχρι οὗ τὸ σήμερον καλεῖται, ἵνα μὴ σκληρυνθῇ ἐξ ὑμῶν τις ἀπάτῃ τῆς ἁμαρτίας·

KJVBut exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness.

μέτοχοι γὰρ γεγόναμεν τοῦ Χριστοῦ, ἐάνπερ τὴν ἀρχὴν τῆς ὑποστάσεως μέχρι τέλους βεβαίαν κατάσχωμεν·

KJVFor we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;

We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.

ἐν τῷ λέγεσθαι, Σήμερον ἐὰν τῆς φωνῆς αὐτοῦ ἀκούσητε, μὴ σκληρύνητε τὰς καρδίας ὑμῶν, ὡς ἐν τῷ παραπικρασμῷ.

KJVWhile it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.

As has just been said: Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.

Τινὲς γὰρ ἀκούσαντες παρεπίκραναν, ἀλλ' οὐ πάντες οἱ ἐξελθόντες ἐξ Αἰγύπτου διὰ Μωϋσέως.

KJVFor some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.

Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt?

Τίσιν δὲ προσώχθισεν τεσσαράκοντα ἔτη; Οὐχὶ τοῖς ἁμαρτήσασιν, ὧν τὰ κῶλα ἔπεσεν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ;

KJVBut with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?

And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies perished in the wilderness?

Τίσιν δὲ ὤμοσεν μὴ εἰσελεύσεσθαι εἰς τὴν κατάπαυσιν αὐτοῦ, εἰ μὴ τοῖς ἀπειθήσασιν;

KJVAnd to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?

And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed?

Καὶ βλέπομεν ὅτι οὐκ ἠδυνήθησαν εἰσελθεῖν δι' ἀπιστίαν.

KJVSo we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.
