תִּמְשֹׁ֣ךְ לִוְיָתָ֣ן בְּחַכָּ֑ה וּבְחֶ֖בֶל תַּשְׁקִ֣יעַ לְשֹׁנֽוֹ׃
KJVCanst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down?
Can you draw out Leviathan with a fishhook or press down his tongue with a cord?

הֲתָשִׂ֣ים אַגְמֹ֣ן בְּאַפּ֑וֹ וּ֝בְח֗וֹחַ תִּקֹּ֥ב לֶחֱיֽוֹ׃
KJVCanst thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn?
Can you put a rope in his nose or pierce his jaw with a hook?

הֲיַרְבֶּ֣ה אֵ֭לֶיךָ תַּחֲנוּנִ֑ים אִ֝ם יְדַבֵּ֗ר אֵלֶ֥יךָ רַכּֽוֹת׃
KJVWill he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft words unto thee?
Will he make many pleas to you? Will he speak to you soft words?

הֲיִכְרֹ֣ת בְּרִ֣ית עִמָּ֑ךְ תִּ֝קָּחֶ֗נּוּ לְעֶ֣בֶד עוֹלָֽם׃
KJVWill he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?
Will he make a covenant with you to take him for your servant forever?

הַ֭תְשַׂחֶק בּ֣וֹ כַצִּפּ֑וֹר וְ֝תִקְשְׁרֶ֗נּוּ לְנַעֲרוֹתֶֽיךָ׃
KJVWilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?
Will you play with him as with a bird, or will you put him on a leash for your girls?

יִכְר֣וּ עָ֭לָיו חַבָּרִ֑ים יֶ֝חְצ֗וּהוּ בֵּ֣ין כְּנַעֲנִֽים׃
KJVShall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants?
Will traders bargain over him? Will they divide him up among the merchants?

הַ֭תְמַלֵּא בְשֻׂכּ֣וֹת עוֹר֑וֹ וּ֝בְצִלְצַ֗ל דָּגִ֥ים רֹאשֽׁוֹ׃
KJVCanst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears?
Can you fill his skin with harpoons or his head with fishing spears?

שִׂ֣ים עָ֭לָיו כַּפֶּ֑ךָ זְ֝כֹ֗ר מִלְחָמָ֥ה אַל תּוֹסַֽף׃
KJVLay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.
Lay your hands on him; remember the battle — you will not do it again!

הֵן תֹּחַלְתּ֥וֹ נִכְזָ֑בָה הֲגַ֥ם אֶ֝ל מַרְאָ֗יו יֻטָֽל׃
KJVBehold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him?
Behold, the hope of a man is false; he is laid low even at the sight of him.
10
לֹא אַכְזָ֥ר כִּ֥י יְעוּרֶ֑נּוּ וּמִ֥י ה֝וּא לְפָנַ֗י יִתְיַצַּֽב׃
KJVNone is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me?
No one is so fierce that he dares to stir him up. Who then is he who can stand before me?

מִ֭י הִקְדִּימַ֣נִי וַאֲשַׁלֵּ֑ם תַּ֖חַת כָּל הַשָּׁמַ֣יִם לִי הֽוּא׃
KJVWho hath prevented me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine.
Who has first given to me, that I should repay him? Whatever is under the whole heaven is mine.

לֹא אַחֲרִ֥ישׁ בַּדָּ֑יו וּדְבַר גְּ֝בוּר֗וֹת וְחִ֣ין עֶרְכּֽוֹ׃
KJVI will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.
I will not keep silence concerning his limbs, or his mighty strength, or his goodly frame.

מִ֭י גִלָּ֣ה פְּנֵ֣י לְבוּשׁ֑וֹ בְּכֶ֥פֶל רִ֝סְנ֗וֹ מִ֣י יָבֽוֹא׃
KJVWho can discover the face of his garment? or who can come to him with his double bridle?
Who can strip off his outer garment? Who can penetrate his double coat of mail?

דַּלְתֵ֣י פָ֭נָיו מִ֣י פִתֵּ֑חַ סְבִיב֥וֹת שִׁ֝נָּ֗יו אֵימָֽה׃
KJVWho can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about.
Who can open the doors of his face? Around his teeth is terror.

גַּ֭אֲוָה אֲפִיקֵ֣י מָגִנִּ֑ים סָג֥וּר חוֹתָ֣ם צָֽר׃
KJVHis scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal.
His back is made of rows of shields, shut up closely as with a seal.
16
אֶחָ֣ד בְּאֶחָ֣ד יִגַּ֑שׁוּ וְ֝ר֗וּחַ לֹא יָב֥וֹא בֵינֵיהֶֽם׃
KJVOne is so near to another, that no air can come between them.
One is so near to another that no air can come between them.
17
אִ֣ישׁ בְּאָחִ֣יהוּ יְדֻבָּ֑קוּ יִ֝תְלַכְּד֗וּ וְלֹ֣א יִתְפָּרָֽדוּ׃
KJVThey are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.
They are joined one to another; they clasp each other and cannot be separated.
18
עֲטִישֹׁתָ֥יו תָּהֶ֥ל א֑וֹר וְ֝עֵינָ֗יו כְּעַפְעַפֵּי שָֽׁחַר׃
KJVBy his neesings a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.
His sneezings flash forth light, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the dawn.
19
מִ֭פִּיו לַפִּידִ֣ים יַהֲלֹ֑כוּ כִּיד֥וֹדֵי אֵ֝שׁ יִתְמַלָּֽטוּ׃
KJVOut of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out.
Out of his mouth go flaming torches; sparks of fire leap forth.
20
מִ֭נְּחִירָיו יֵ֣צֵא עָשָׁ֑ן כְּד֥וּד נָ֝פ֗וּחַ וְאַגְמֹֽן׃
KJVOut of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron.
Out of his nostrils comes forth smoke, as from a boiling pot and burning rushes.
21
נַפְשׁ֥וֹ גֶ֥חָלִ֥ים תְּלַהֵ֑ט וְ֝לַהַ֗ב מִפִּ֥יו יֵצֵֽא׃
KJVHis breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.
His breath sets coals ablaze, and a flame comes forth from his mouth.
22
בְּצַוָּארָ֥יו יָלִ֥ין עֹ֑ז וּ֝לְפָנָ֗יו תָּד֥וּץ דְּאָבָֽה׃
KJVIn his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him.
In his neck abides strength, and terror dances before him.
23
מַפְּלֵ֣י בְ֭שָׂרוֹ דָּבֵ֑קוּ יָצ֥וּק עָ֝לָ֗יו בַּל יִמּֽוֹט׃
KJVThe flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved.
The folds of his flesh stick together, firmly cast on him and immovable.
24
לִבּ֣וֹ יָצ֣וּק כְּמ֣וֹ אָ֑בֶן וְ֝יָצ֗וּק כְּפֶ֣לַח תַּחְתִּֽית׃
KJVHis heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone.
His heart is hard as a stone, hard as the lower millstone.
25
מִ֭שֵּׂתוֹ יָגֽוּרוּ אֵלִ֑ים מִ֝שְּׁבָרִ֗ים יִתְחַטָּֽאוּ׃
KJVWhen he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves.
When he raises himself up, the mighty are afraid; at the crashing they are beside themselves.
26
מַשִּׂיגֵ֣הוּ חֶ֭רֶב בְּלִ֣י תָק֑וּם חֲנִ֥ית מַ֝סְּעָ֗ה וְשִׁרְיָֽה׃
KJVThe sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon.
Though the sword reaches him, it does not avail, nor the spear, the dart, or the javelin.
27
יַחְשֹׁ֣ב לְ֭תֶבֶן בַּרְזֶ֑ל לְ֝עֵ֗ץ רִקָּב֥וֹן נְחוּשָֽׁה׃
KJVHe esteemeth iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood.
He counts iron as straw, and bronze as rotten wood.
28
לֹא יַ֭בְרִיחֶנּוּ בֶן קָ֑שֶׁת לְ֝קַשׁ נֶהְפְּכוּ לוֹ אַבְנֵי קָֽלַע׃
KJVThe arrow cannot make him flee: slingstones are turned with him into stubble.
The arrow cannot make him flee; for him, sling stones are turned to stubble.
29
כְּקַ֣שׁ נֶ֭חְשְׁבוּ תוֹתָ֑ח וְ֝יִשְׂחַ֗ק לְרַ֣עַשׁ כִּידֽוֹן׃
KJVDarts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear.
Clubs are counted as stubble; he laughs at the rattle of javelins.
30
תַּ֣חְתָּיו חַדּ֣וּדֵי חָ֑רֶשׂ יִרְפַּ֥ד חָ֝רוּץ עֲלֵי טִֽיט׃
KJVSharp stones are under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire.
His underparts are like sharp potsherds; he spreads himself like a threshing sledge on the mire.
31
יַרְתִּ֣יחַ כַּ֭סִּיר מְצוּלָ֑ה יָ֝שֶׂ֗ם כַּמֶּרְקָחָ֥ה יָֽם׃
KJVHe maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment.
He makes the deep boil like a pot; he makes the sea like a pot of ointment.
32
יַ֭אִיר אַחֲרָ֣יו נָתִ֑יב יַחְשֹׁ֖ב תְּה֣וֹם לְשֵׂיבָֽה׃
KJVHe maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary.
Behind him he leaves a shining wake; one would think the deep to be white-haired.
33
אֵ֣ין עַל עָפָ֣ר מָשְׁל֑וֹ הֶ֝עָשׂ֗וּ לִבְלִי חָֽת׃
KJVUpon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.
On earth there is not his like, a creature without fear.
34
אֶת כָּל גָּבֹ֣הַּ יִרְאֶ֑ה ה֝֗וּא מֶ֣לֶךְ עַל כָּל בְּנֵי שָֽׁחַץ׃
KJVHe beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride.
He sees everything that is high; he is king over all the sons of pride.
