Acts 24:26

ἅμα καὶ ἐλπίζων ὅτι χρήματα δοθήσεται αὐτῷ ὑπὸ τοῦ Παύλου, ὅπως λύσῃ αὐτόν· διὸ καὶ πυκνότερον αὐτὸν μεταπεμπόμενος ὡμίλει αὐτῷ.
ama kai elpizōn oti chrēmata dothēsetai aytō ypo toy Payloy, opōs lysē ayton· dio kai pyknoteron ayton metapempomenos ōmilei aytō.
King James Version (KJV)

He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.

Modern English

At the same time he was hoping that Paul would offer him a bribe, so he sent for him frequently and talked with him.
