Ἀδελφοί, ἡ μὲν εὐδοκία τῆς ἐμῆς καρδίας καὶ ἡ δέησις ἡ πρὸς τὸν Θεὸν ὑπὲρ τοῦ Ἰσραήλ ἐστιν εἰς σωτηρίαν.

KJVBrethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.

Brothers and sisters, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved.

Μαρτυρῶ γὰρ αὐτοῖς ὅτι ζῆλον Θεοῦ ἔχουσιν, ἀλλ' οὐ κατ' ἐπίγνωσιν.

KJVFor I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.

For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge.

Ἀγνοοῦντες γὰρ τὴν τοῦ Θεοῦ δικαιοσύνην, καὶ τὴν ἰδίαν δικαιοσύνην ζητοῦντες στῆσαι, τῇ δικαιοσύνῃ τοῦ Θεοῦ οὐχ ὑπετάγησαν.

KJVFor they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness.

τέλος γὰρ νόμου Χριστὸς εἰς δικαιοσύνην παντὶ τῷ πιστεύοντι.

KJVFor Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

Μωϋσῆς γὰρ γράφει τὴν δικαιοσύνην τὴν ἐκ τοῦ νόμου, ὅτι ὁ ποιήσας αὐτὰ ἄνθρωπος ζήσεται ἐν αὐτοῖς.

KJVFor Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.

Moses writes this about the righteousness that is by the law: The person who does these things will live by them.

Ἡ δὲ ἐκ πίστεως δικαιοσύνη οὕτως λέγει, Μὴ εἴπῃς ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ σου, Τίς ἀναβήσεται εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν;- τοῦτ' ἔστιν Χριστὸν καταγαγεῖν-

KJVBut the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)

But the righteousness that is by faith says: Do not say in your heart, Who will ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down)

ἤ, Τίς καταβήσεται εἰς τὴν ἄβυσσον;- τοῦτ' ἔστιν Χριστὸν ἐκ νεκρῶν ἀναγαγεῖν.

KJVOr, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)

or Who will descend into the deep? (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).

Ἀλλὰ τί λέγει; Ἐγγύς σου τὸ ῥῆμά ἐστιν, ἐν τῷ στόματί σου καὶ ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ σου· τοῦτ' ἔστιν τὸ ῥῆμα τῆς πίστεως ὃ κηρύσσομεν·

KJVBut what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

But what does it say? The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart, that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim:

ὅτι ἐὰν ὁμολογήσῃς ἐν τῷ στόματί σου Κύριον Ἰησοῦν, καὶ πιστεύσῃς ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ σου ὅτι ὁ Θεὸς αὐτὸν ἤγειρεν ἐκ νεκρῶν, σωθήσῃ.

KJVThat if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

καρδίᾳ γὰρ πιστεύεται εἰς δικαιοσύνην, στόματι δὲ ὁμολογεῖται εἰς σωτηρίαν.

KJVFor with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

Λέγει γὰρ ἡ γραφή, Πᾶς ὁ πιστεύων ἐπ' αὐτῷ οὐ καταισχυνθήσεται.

KJVFor the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

As Scripture says, Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.

Οὐ γάρ ἐστιν διαστολὴ Ἰουδαίου τε καὶ Ἕλληνος· ὁ γὰρ αὐτὸς Κύριος πάντων, πλουτῶν εἰς πάντας τοὺς ἐπικαλουμένους αὐτόν.

KJVFor there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile — the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him,

πᾶς γὰρ ὃς ἂν ἐπικαλέσηται τὸ ὄνομα Κυρίου σωθήσεται.

KJVFor whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

for, Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Πῶς οὖν ἐπικαλέσονται εἰς ὃν οὐκ ἐπίστευσαν; Πῶς δὲ πιστεύσουσιν οὗ οὐκ ἤκουσαν; Πῶς δὲ ἀκούσουσιν χωρὶς κηρύσσοντος;

KJVHow then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

Πῶς δὲ κηρύξουσιν ἐὰν μὴ ἀποσταλῶσιν; Καθὼς γέγραπται, Ὡς ὡραῖοι οἱ πόδες τῶν εὐαγγελιζομένων εἰρήνην, τῶν εὐαγγελιζομένων τὰ ἀγαθά.

KJVAnd how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!

Ἀλλ' οὐ πάντες ὑπήκουσαν τῷ εὐαγγελίῳ. Ἠσαΐας γὰρ λέγει, Κύριε, τίς ἐπίστευσεν τῇ ἀκοῇ ἡμῶν;

KJVBut they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, Lord, who has believed our message?

ἄρα ἡ πίστις ἐξ ἀκοῆς, ἡ δὲ ἀκοὴ διὰ ῥήματος Θεοῦ.

KJVSo then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

Ἀλλὰ λέγω, μὴ οὐκ ἤκουσαν; Μενοῦνγε· Εἰς πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν ἐξῆλθεν ὁ φθόγγος αὐτῶν, καὶ εἰς τὰ πέρατα τῆς οἰκουμένης τὰ ῥήματα αὐτῶν.

KJVBut I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

But I ask: Did they not hear? Of course they did: Their voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.

Ἀλλὰ λέγω, μὴ οὐκ ἔγνω Ἰσραήλ; Πρῶτος Μωϋσῆς λέγει, Ἐγὼ παραζηλώσω ὑμᾶς ἐπ' οὐκ ἔθνει, ἐπὶ ἔθνει ἀσυνέτῳ παροργιῶ ὑμᾶς.

KJVBut I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.

Again I ask: Did Israel not understand? First, Moses says, I will make you envious by those who are not a nation; I will make you angry by a nation that has no understanding.

Ἠσαΐας δὲ ἀποτολμᾷ καὶ λέγει, Εὑρέθην τοῖς ἐμὲ μὴ ζητοῦσιν, ἐμφανὴς ἐγενόμην τοῖς ἐμὲ μὴ ἐπερωτῶσιν.

KJVBut Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.

And Isaiah boldly says, I was found by those who did not seek me; I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me.

Πρὸς δὲ τὸν Ἰσραὴλ λέγει, Ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν ἐξεπέτασα τὰς χεῖράς μου πρὸς λαὸν ἀπειθοῦντα καὶ ἀντιλέγοντα.

KJVBut to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.

But concerning Israel he says, All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and obstinate people.
