וַיִּסְעוּ מֵאֵילִם

KJVAnd they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.

They set out from Elim, and all the congregation of the people of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had departed from the land of Egypt.

וַיִּלּוֹנוּ כָּל עֲדַת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל

KJVAnd the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.

And the whole congregation of the people of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness,

וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֲלֵהֶם בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל

KJVAnd the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full.

and the people of Israel said to them, "Would that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the meat pots and ate bread to the full."

וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל מֹשֶׁה

KJVThen said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.

Then the LORD said to Moses, "Behold, I am about to rain bread from heaven for you, and the people shall go out and gather a day's portion every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in my law or not."

וְהָיָה בַּיּוֹם הַשִּׁשִּׁי

KJVAnd it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.

On the sixth day, when they prepare what they bring in, it will be twice as much as they gather daily.

וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן

KJVAnd Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from the land of Egypt.

So Moses and Aaron said to all the people of Israel, "At evening you shall know that it was the LORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt,

וּבֹקֶר וּרְאִיתֶם אֶת כְּבוֹד יְהוָה

KJVAnd in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the LORD; for that he heareth your murmurings against the LORD: and what are we, that ye murmur against us?

and in the morning you shall see the glory of the LORD, because he has heard your grumbling against the LORD. For what are we, that you grumble against us?"

וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה בְּתֵת יְהוָה לָכֶם

KJVAnd Moses said, This shall be, when the LORD shall give you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for that the LORD heareth your murmurings which ye murmur against him: and what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against the LORD.

And Moses said, "When the LORD gives you in the evening meat to eat and in the morning bread to the full, because the LORD has heard your grumbling that you grumble against him — what are we? Your grumbling is not against us but against the LORD."

וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה אֶל אַהֲרֹן

KJVAnd Moses spake unto Aaron, Say unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, Come near before the LORD: for he hath heard your murmurings.

Then Moses said to Aaron, "Say to the whole congregation of the people of Israel, 'Come near before the LORD, for he has heard your grumbling.'"

וַיְהִי כְּדַבֵּר אַהֲרֹן

KJVAnd it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.

And as soon as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the people of Israel, they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.

וַיְדַבֵּר יְהוָה אֶל מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר

KJVAnd the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

And the LORD said to Moses,

12

שָׁמַעְתִּי אֶת תְּלוּנֹּת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל

KJVI have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God.

I have heard the grumbling of the people of Israel. Say to them, "At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread. Then you shall know that I am the LORD your God."

וַיְהִי בָעֶרֶב וַתַּעַל הַשְּׂלָו

KJVAnd it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the host.

In the evening quail came up and covered the camp, and in the morning dew lay around the camp.

14

וַתַּעַל שִׁכְבַת הַטָּל

KJVAnd when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground.

And when the dew had gone up, there was on the face of the wilderness a fine, flake-like thing, fine as frost on the ground.

וַיִּרְאוּ בְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל

KJVAnd when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat.

When the people of Israel saw it, they said to one another, "What is it?" For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, "It is the bread that the LORD has given you to eat."

זֶה הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוָה

KJVThis is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents.

This is what the LORD has commanded: "Gather of it, each one of you, as much as he can eat. You shall each take an omer, the number of persons that each of you has in his tent."

וַיַּעֲשׂוּ כֵן בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל

KJVAnd the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less.

And the people of Israel did so. They gathered, some more, some less.

18

וַיָּמֹדּוּ בָעֹמֶר

KJVAnd when they did mete it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating.

But when they measured it with an omer, whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack. Each of them gathered as much as he could eat.

19

וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה אֲלֵהֶם

KJVAnd Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning.

And Moses said to them, "Let no one leave any of it over till the morning."

20

וְלֹא שָׁמְעוּ אֶל מֹשֶׁה

KJVNotwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them.

But they did not listen to Moses. Some left part of it till the morning, and it bred worms and stank. And Moses was angry with them.

21

וַיִּלְקְטוּ אֹתוֹ בַּבֹּקֶר בַּבֹּקֶר

KJVAnd they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating: and when the sun waxed hot, it melted.

Morning by morning they gathered it, each as much as he could eat; but when the sun grew hot, it melted.

וַיְהִי בַּיּוֹם הַשִּׁשִּׁי

KJVAnd it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.

On the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers each. And when all the leaders of the congregation came and told Moses,

וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם

KJVAnd he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.

he said to them, "This is what the LORD has commanded: 'Tomorrow is a day of solemn rest, a holy Sabbath to the LORD.'"

וַיַּנִּיחוּ אֹתוֹ עַד הַבֹּקֶר

KJVAnd they laid it up till the morning, as Moses bade: and it did not stink, neither was there any worm therein.

So they laid it aside till the morning, as Moses commanded them, and it did not stink, and there were no worms in it.

25

וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה אִכְלֻהוּ הַיּוֹם

KJVAnd Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field.

Moses said, "Eat it today, for today is a Sabbath to the LORD; today you will not find it in the field."

26

שֵׁשֶׁת יָמִים תִּלְקְטֻהוּ

KJVSix days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.

Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, which is a Sabbath, there will be none.

27

וַיְהִי בַּיּוֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִי

KJVAnd it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none.

On the seventh day some of the people went out to gather, but they found none.

28

וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל מֹשֶׁה

KJVAnd the LORD said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?

And the LORD said to Moses, "How long will you refuse to keep my commandments and my laws?"

29

רְאוּ כִּי יְהוָה נָתַן לָכֶם הַשַּׁבָּת

KJVSee, for that the LORD hath given you the sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.

See! The LORD has given you the Sabbath; therefore on the sixth day he gives you bread for two days. Remain each of you in his place; let no one go out of his place on the seventh day.

30

וַיִּשְׁבְּתוּ הָעָם בַּיּוֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִי

KJVSo the people rested on the seventh day.

31

וַיִּקְרְאוּ בֵית יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת שְׁמוֹ מָן

KJVAnd the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna: and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.

Now the house of Israel called its name manna. It was like coriander seed, white, and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.

32

וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה זֶה הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוָה

KJVAnd Moses said, This is the thing which the LORD commandeth, Fill an omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see the bread wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt.

Moses said, "This is what the LORD has commanded: 'Let an omer of it be kept throughout your generations, so that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness.'"

33

וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה אֶל אַהֲרֹן

KJVAnd Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your generations.

And Moses said to Aaron, "Take a jar, and put an omer of manna in it, and place it before the LORD to be kept throughout your generations."

34

כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוָה אֶל מֹשֶׁה

KJVAs the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept.

As the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron placed it before the testimony to be kept.

35

וּבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אָכְלוּ אֶת הַמָּן

KJVAnd the children of Israel did eat manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited; they did eat manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan.

The people of Israel ate the manna forty years, till they came to a habitable land. They ate the manna till they came to the border of the land of Canaan.

36

וְהָעֹמֶר עֲשִׂרִית הָאֵפָה הוּא

KJVNow an omer is the tenth part of an ephah.

An omer is the tenth part of an ephah.
