וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים אֶל יַעֲקֹב קוּם עֲלֵה בֵית אֵל
KJVAnd God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.
God said to Jacob, "Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there. Make an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau."

וַיֹּאמֶר יַעֲקֹב אֶל בֵּיתוֹ
KJVThen Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:
So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, "Put away the foreign gods that are among you and purify yourselves and change your garments."

וְנָקוּמָה וְנַעֲלֶה בֵּית אֵל
KJVAnd let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.
Then let us arise and go up to Bethel, so that I may make there an altar to the God who answers me in the day of my distress and has been with me wherever I have gone.

וַיִּתְּנוּ אֶל יַעֲקֹב אֵת כָּל אֱלֹהֵי הַנֵּכָר
KJVAnd they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.
So they gave to Jacob all the foreign gods that they had, and the rings that were in their ears. Jacob hid them under the terebinth tree that was near Shechem.

וַיִּסְעוּ וַיְהִי חִתַּת אֱלֹהִים עַל הֶעָרִים
KJVAnd they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.
And as they journeyed, a terror from God fell upon the cities that were around them, so that they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.

וַיָּבֹא יַעֲקֹב לוּזָה
KJVSo Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people that were with him.
Jacob came to Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him.
7
וַיִּבֶן שָׁם מִזְבֵּחַ
KJVAnd he built there an altar, and called the place El-beth-el: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.
And there he built an altar and called the place El-bethel, because there God had revealed himself to him when he fled from his brother.
8
וַתָּמָת דְּבֹרָה מֵינֶקֶת רִבְקָה
KJVBut Deborah Rebekah’s nurse died, and she was buried beneath Bethel under an oak: and the name of it was called Allon-bachuth.
And Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, died, and she was buried under an oak below Bethel. So it was called Allon-bacuth.

וַיֵּרָא אֱלֹהִים אֶל יַעֲקֹב עוֹד
KJVAnd God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padan-aram, and blessed him.
God appeared to Jacob again, when he came from Paddan-aram, and blessed him.
10
וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ אֱלֹהִים שִׁמְךָ יַעֲקֹב
KJVAnd God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel.
And God said to him, "Your name is Jacob; no longer shall your name be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name." So he called his name Israel.

וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ אֱלֹהִים אֲנִי אֵל שַׁדַּי
KJVAnd God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;
And God said to him, "I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply. A nation and a company of nations shall come from you, and kings shall come from your own body."

וְאֶת הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר נָתַתִּי לְאַבְרָהָם
KJVAnd the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.
The land that I gave to Abraham and Isaac I will give to you, and I will give the land to your offspring after you.

וַיַּעַל מֵעָלָיו אֱלֹהִים
KJVAnd God went up from him in the place where he talked with him.
Then God went up from him in the place where he had spoken with him.
14
וַיַּצֵּב יַעֲקֹב מַצֵּבָה בַּמָּקוֹם
KJVAnd Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone: and he poured a drink offering thereon, and he poured oil thereon.
And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he had spoken with him, a pillar of stone. He poured out a drink offering on it and poured oil on it.

וַיִּקְרָא יַעֲקֹב אֶת שֵׁם הַמָּקוֹם
KJVAnd Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, Bethel.
So Jacob called the name of the place where God had spoken with him Bethel.
16
וַיִּסְעוּ מִבֵּית אֵל
KJVAnd they journeyed from Bethel; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour.
Then they journeyed from Bethel. When they were still some distance from Ephrath, Rachel went into labor, and she had hard labor.
17
וַיְהִי בְהַקְשֹׁתָהּ בְּלִדְתָּהּ
KJVAnd it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.
And when her labor was at its hardest, the midwife said to her, "Do not fear, for you have another son."

וַיְהִי בְּצֵאת נַפְשָׁהּ כִּי מֵתָה
KJVAnd it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Ben-oni: but his father called him Benjamin.
And as her soul was departing (for she was dying), she called his name Ben-oni; but his father called him Benjamin.
19
וַתָּמָת רָחֵל וַתִּקָּבֵר בְּדֶרֶךְ אֶפְרָתָה
KJVAnd Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.
So Rachel died, and she was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).
20
וַיַּצֵּב יַעֲקֹב מַצֵּבָה עַל קְבֻרָתָהּ
KJVAnd Jacob set a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of Rachel’s grave unto this day.
And Jacob set up a pillar over her tomb. It is the pillar of Rachel's tomb, which is there to this day.
21
וַיִּסַּע יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיֵּט אָהֳלֹה
KJVAnd Israel journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar.
Israel journeyed on and pitched his tent beyond the tower of Eder.
22
וַיְהִי בִּשְׁכֹּן יִשְׂרָאֵל בָּאָרֶץ הַהִוא
KJVAnd it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine: and Israel heard it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:
While Israel lived in that land, Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father's concubine. And Israel heard of it.

בְּנֵי לֵאָה בְּכוֹר יַעֲקֹב רְאוּבֵן
KJVThe sons of Leah; Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun:
Now the sons of Leah: Reuben (Jacob's firstborn), Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.

בְּנֵי רָחֵל יוֹסֵף וּבִנְיָמִין
KJVThe sons of Rachel; Joseph, and Benjamin:
The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.
25
וּבְנֵי בִלְהָה שִׁפְחַת רָחֵל דָּן וְנַפְתָּלִי
KJVAnd the sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s handmaid; Dan, and Naphtali:
The sons of Bilhah, Rachel's servant: Dan and Naphtali.

וּבְנֵי זִלְפָּה שִׁפְחַת לֵאָה גָּד וְאָשֵׁר
KJVAnd the sons of Zilpah, Leah’s handmaid; Gad, and Asher: these are the sons of Jacob, which were born to him in Padan-aram.
The sons of Zilpah, Leah's servant: Gad and Asher. These were the sons of Jacob who were born to him in Paddan-aram.
27
וַיָּבֹא יַעֲקֹב אֶל יִצְחָק אָבִיו
KJVAnd Jacob came unto Isaac his father unto Mamre, unto the city of Arbah, which is Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.
And Jacob came to his father Isaac at Mamre, or Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had sojourned.

וַיִּהְיוּ יְמֵי יִצְחָק מְאַת שָׁנָה וּשְׁמֹנִים שָׁנָה
KJVAnd the days of Isaac were an hundred and fourscore years.
Now the days of Isaac were 180 years.
29
וַיִּגְוַע יִצְחָק וַיָּמָת וַיֵּאָסֶף אֶל עַמָּיו
KJVAnd Isaac gave up the ghost, and died, and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
And Isaac breathed his last, and he died and was gathered to his people, old and full of days. And his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
