שְׁפַ֣ר קֳדָ֣ם דָּרְיָ֡וֶשׁ וַהֲקִ֣ים עַל מַלְכוּתָ֡א לַאֲחַשְׁדַּרְפְּנַיָּ֡א מִאָ֡ה וְעֶשְׂרִ֣ין וּתְרֵ֡ין דִּ֣י לֶהֱו֣וֹן בְּכָל מַלְכוּתָֽא׃

KJVIt pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom;

It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom one hundred twenty-two satraps, to be throughout the whole kingdom;

וְעִלָּ֣וַיְהֹ֡ון סָרְכִ֡ין תְּלָ֡תָה דִּ֣י דָנִיֵּ֡אל חַ֣ד מִנְּהֹ֡ון דִּ֣י לֶהֱו֣וֹן אֲחַשְׁדַּרְפְּנַיָּ֡א אִלֵּ֣ין יָהֲבִ֡ין לְהֹ֡ון טַעְמָ֡א וּמַלְכָּ֡א לָ֣א לֶהֱוֵ֡א נָזִ֡ק׃

KJVAnd over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.

and over them three high officials, of whom Daniel was one, to whom these satraps should give account, so that the king might suffer no loss.

אֱדַ֙יִן֙ דָּנִיֵּ֣אל דְּנָ֔ה הֲוָ֣א מִתְנַצַּ֔ח עַ֚ל סָרְכַיָּ֣א וַאֲחַשְׁדַּרְפְּנַיָּ֔א כָּל קֳבֵ֕ל דִּ֥י רוּחַ יַתִּ֖ירָה בֵּ֑הּ וּמַלְכָּ֗א עֲשִׁ֛ית לַהֲקָמוּתֵ֖הּ עַל כָּל מַלְכוּתָֽא׃

KJVThen this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

Then this Daniel became distinguished above all the other presidents and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him. And the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.

בֵּ֗אדַיִן סָרְכַיָּ֤א וַאֲחַשְׁדַּרְפְּנַיָּ֙א הֲווֹ֙ בָּעַ֣יִן עִלָּ֔ה לְהַשְׁכָּחָ֥ה לְדָנִיֵּ֖אל מִצַּ֣ד מַלְכוּתָ֑א וְכָ֨ל עִלָּ֧ה וּשְׁחִיתָ֛ה לָ֥א יָכְלִ֖ין לְהַשְׁכָּחָ֑ה כָּל קֳבֵ֗ל דִּ֤י מְהֵימַן֙ הוּ֔א וְכָל שָׁלוּ֥ וּשְׁחִיתָ֖ה לָ֥א הִשְׁתְּכַ֖חַת עֲלֹ֥והִי׃

KJVThen the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.

Then the presidents and the satraps sought to find a ground for complaint against Daniel with regard to the kingdom, but they could find no ground for complaint or any fault, because he was faithful, and no error or fault was found in him.

בֵּ֗אדַיִן גֻּבְרַיָּ֙א אִלֵּ֜ךְ אָמְרִ֗ין דִּ֣י לָ֣א נְהַשְׁכַּ֣ח לְדָנִיֵּ֡אל דְּנָ֡ה כָּל עִלָּ֡ה לָהֵ֡ן הַשְׁכַּ֣חְנָהּ עֲלֹ֣והִי בְּדָ֣ת אֱלָהֵ֡הּ׃

KJVThen said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.

Then these men said: We shall not find any ground for complaint against this Daniel unless we find it in connection with the law of his God.

בֵּ֗אדַיִן סָרְכַיָּ֤א וַאֲחַשְׁדַּרְפְּנַיָּ֙א אִ֜לֵּן הַרְגִּ֤שׁוּ עַל מַלְכָּא֙ וְכֵן אָמְרִ֣ין לֵ֔הּ דָּרְיָ֥וֶשׁ מַלְכָּ֖א לְעָלְמִ֥ין חֱיִֽי׃

KJVThen these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever.

Then these presidents and satraps came by agreement to the king and said to him: O King Darius, live forever!

אִתְיָֽעַטוּ֩ כֹ֨ל סָרְכֵ֤י מַלְכוּתָא֙ סִגְנַיָּ֣א וַאֲחַשְׁדַּרְפְּנַיָּ֔א הַדָּֽבְרַיָּ֖א וּפַחֲוָתָ֑א לְקַיָּמָ֨ה קְיָ֜ם מַלְכָּ֗א וּלְתַקָּפָ֤ה אֱסָר֙ דִּ֣י כָל דִּי יִבְעֵ֣ה בָעוּ֩ מִן כָּל אֱלָ֤הּ וֶאֱנָשׁ֙ עַד יֹֽומִין֙ תְּלָ֣תִ֔ין לָהֵ֣ן מִנָּ֔ךְ מַלְכָּ֖א יִתְרְמֵ֥א לְגֹ֖וב אַרְיָוָתָֽא׃

KJVAll the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

All the presidents of the kingdom, the prefects and the satraps, the counselors and the governors are agreed that the king should establish an ordinance and enforce an injunction, that whoever makes petition to any god or man for thirty days, except to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions.

כְּעַ֣ן מַלְכָּ֡א תְּקִ֡ים אֱסָרָ֡א וְתִרְשֻׁ֣ם כְּתָבָ֡א דִּ֣י לָ֣א לְהַשְׁנָיָ֡ה כְּדָ֣ת מָדַ֣י וּפָרַ֡ס דִּ֣י לָ֣א תֶעְדֵּֽה׃

KJVNow, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.

Now, O king, establish the injunction and sign the document, so that it cannot be changed, according to the law of the Medes and the Persians, which cannot be revoked.

כָּל קֳבֵ֗ל דְּנָה֙ מַלְכָּ֣א דָרְיָ֔וֶשׁ רְשַׁ֖ם כְּתָבָ֥א וֶאֱסָרָֽא׃

KJVWherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.

Therefore King Darius signed the document and injunction.

וְדָנִיֵּאל֩ כְּדִ֨י יְדַ֜ע דִּ֣י רְשִׁ֣ים כְּתָבָ֗א עַ֤ל לְבֵיתֵהּ֙ וְכַוִּ֣ין פְּתִיחָ֣ן לֵ֔הּ בְּעִלִּיתֵ֖הּ נֶ֣גֶד יְרוּשְׁלֶ֑ם וְזִמְנִ֨ין תְּלָ֜תָה בְיֹֽומָ֗א הֽוּא בָּרֵ֧ךְ עַל בִּרְכֹ֛והִי וּמְצַלֵּ֥א וּמוֹדֵ֖א קֳדָ֥ם אֱלָהֵֽהּ כָּל קֳבֵ֗ל דִּֽי הֲוָה֙ עָבֵ֣ד מִן קַדְמַ֔ת דְּנָֽה׃

KJVNow when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.

When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.

בֵּ֗אדַיִן גֻּבְרַיָּ֙א אִלֵּ֜ךְ הַרְגִּ֤שׁוּ וְהַשְׁכַּ֙חוּ֙ לְדָנִיֵּ֔אל בָּעֵ֥א וּמִתְחַנַּ֖ן קֳדָ֥ם אֱלָהֵֽהּ׃

KJVThen these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.

Then these men came by agreement and found Daniel making petition and plea before his God.

בֵּ֗אדַיִן קְרִ֤בוּ וְאָמְרִין֙ קֳדָ֣ם מַלְכָּ֔א עַל אֱסַ֣ר מַלְכָּ֔א הֲלָ֤א אֱסַ֙ר רְשַׁ֔מְתָּ דִּ֣י כָל אֱנָ֡שׁ דִּ֣י יִבְעֵ֡ה מִן כָּל אֱלָ֡הּ וֶאֱנָ֡שׁ עַד יֹֽומִין֩ תְּלָ֨תִ֜ין לָהֵ֣ן מִנָּ֔ךְ מַלְכָּ֖א יִתְרְמֵ֣א לְגֹ֖וב אַרְיָוָתָ֑א עָנֵ֤ה מַלְכָּא֙ וְאָמַ֔ר יַצִּ֤יבָא מִלְּתָא֙ כְּדָ֣ת מָדַ֣י וּפָרַ֡ס דִּ֣י לָ֣א תֶעְדֵּֽה׃

KJVThen they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king's decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.

Then they came near and said before the king, concerning the injunction: O king! Did you not sign an injunction, that anyone who makes petition to any god or man within thirty days except to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said: The thing stands fast, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be revoked.

בֵּ֗אדַיִן עָנ֤וֹ וְאָמְרִין֙ קֳדָ֣ם מַלְכָּ֔א דִּ֤י דָנִיֵּאל֙ דִּ֣י מִן בְּנֵ֣י גָלוּתָ֣א דִ֣י יְהוּד֑ לָ֣א שָׂ֣ם עֲלָ֡ךְ מַלְכָּ֡א טְּעֵ֡ם וְעַל אֱסָרָ֡א דִּ֣י רְשַׁ֡מְתָּ וְזִמְנִ֡ין תְּלָ֡תָה בְיֹֽומָ֡א בָּעֵ֡א בָעוּ֡תֵהּ׃

KJVThen answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.

Then they answered and said before the king: Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah, pays no attention to you, O king, or the injunction you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day.

בֵּ֗אדַיִן מַלְכָּ֤א כְּדִֽי מִלְּתָא֙ שְׁמַ֔ע שַׂגִּיא֙ בְּאֵ֣שׁ עֲלֹ֔והִי וְעַ֣ל דָּנִיֵּ֔אל שָׂ֥ם בָּ֖ל לְשֵׁיזָבוּתֵ֑הּ וְעַ֣ד מֶֽעְלֵ֣י שִׁמְשָׁ֣א הֲוָ֣א מִשְׁתַּדַּ֡ר לְהַצָּלוּתֵֽהּ׃

KJVThen the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.

Then the king, when he heard these words, was much distressed and set his mind to deliver Daniel. And he labored till the sun went down to rescue him.

בֵּ֗אדַיִן גֻּבְרַיָּ֙א אִלֵּ֜ךְ הַרְגִּ֤שׁוּ עַל מַלְכָּא֙ וְאָמְרִ֣ין לְמַלְכָּ֔א דַּ֥ע מַלְכָּ֖א דִּי דָ֥ת לְמָדַ֣י וּפָרַ֡ס דִּי כָל אֱסָ֡ר וּקְיָ֡ם דִּ֣י מַלְכָּ֣א יְהָקֵ֣ים לָ֣א לְהַשְׁנָיָ֡ה׃

KJVThen these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.

Then these men came by agreement to the king and said to the king: Know, O king, that it is a law of the Medes and Persians that no injunction or ordinance that the king establishes can be changed.

בֵּ֗אדַיִן מַלְכָּ֤א אֲמַר֙ וְהַיְתִ֣יו לְדָנִיֵּ֔אל וּרְמ֖וֹ לְגֹ֣וב אַרְיָוָתָ֑א עָנֵ֣ה מַלְכָּ֣א וְאָמַ֣ר לְדָנִיֵּ֡אל אֱלָהָ֡ךְ דִּ֣י אַנְתְּ֣ה פָלַ֣ח לֵ֡הּ בִּתְדִ֣ירָ֡א הֽוּא יְשֵׁיזְבִנָּֽךְ׃

KJVThen the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.

Then the king commanded, and Daniel was brought and cast into the den of lions. The king declared to Daniel: May your God, whom you serve continually, deliver you!

וְהֵיתָ֤יַת אֶ֙בֶן֙ חֲדָ֔ה וּשִׂ֖ימַת עַל פֻּ֣ם גֻּבָּ֑א וְחַתְמַ֣הּ מַלְכָּ֣א בְּעִזְקְתֵ֡הּ וּבְעִזְקָ֣ת רַבְרְבָנֹ֡והִי דִּ֣י לָ֣א תִשְׁנֵ֣א צִבוּ֡ and בְּדָנִיֵּֽאל׃

KJVAnd a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.

And a stone was brought and laid on the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet and with the signet of his lords, that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel.

בֵּ֗אדַיִן אֲזַ֤ל מַלְכָּא֙ לְהֵֽיכְלֵ֔הּ וּבָ֥ת טְוָ֖ת וְדַחֲוָ֣ן לָ֣א הַנְעֵ֡ל קֳדָמֹ֡והִי וְשִׁנְתֵּ֡הּ נַדַּ֡ת עֲלֹ֡והִי׃

KJVThen the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him.

Then the king went to his palace and spent the night fasting; no diversions were brought to him, and sleep fled from him.

בֵּ֗אדַיִן מַלְכָּ֤א בִּשְׁפַרְפָּרָא֙ יְקוּם֙ בְּנַ֔גְהָא וּבְהִתְבְּהָלָ֖ה לְגֹ֣וב אַרְיָוָתָ֣א אֲזַ֑ל׃

KJVThen the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions.

Then, at break of day, the king arose and went in haste to the den of lions.

וּכְמִקְרְבֵ֣הּ לְגֻבָּ֡א לְדָנִיֵּ֡אל בְּקָל עֲצִ֡יב זְעִ֡ק עָנֵ֣ה מַלְכָּ֣א וְאָמַ֣ר לְדָנִיֵּ֡אל דָּנִיֵּ֡אל עֶ֣בֶד אֱלָהָ֣א חַיָּ֡א אֱלָהָ֡ךְ דִּ֣י פָלַ֣ח לֵ֡הּ בִּתְדִ֣ירָ֡א הֽוּ שֵׁיזְבִ֡נָּךְ מִן אַרְיָוָתָ֡א׃

KJVAnd when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?

As he came near to the den where Daniel was, he cried out in a tone of anguish. The king declared to Daniel: O Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?

בֵּ֗אדַיִן דָּנִיֵּ֧אל עִם מַלְכָּ֛א מַלִּ֖יל מַלְכָּ֥א לְעָלְמִ֥ין חֱיִֽי׃

KJVThen said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.

Then Daniel said to the king: O king, live forever!

אֱלָהִי֙ שְׁלַ֣ח מַלְאֲכֵ֔הּ וּסֲגַ֖ר פֻּ֣ם אַרְיָוָתָ֑א וְלָ֤א חַבְּלוּנִי֙ כָּל קֳבֵ֣ל דִּי קֳדָמֹ֣והִי זָכוּ֣ תְהִ֡יב לִ֡י וְאַ֣ף קֳדָמָ֣ךְ מַלְכָּ֡א חֲבוּלָ֣ה לָ֣א עַבְדֵֽת׃

KJVMy God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.

My God sent his angel and shut the lions' mouths, and they have not harmed me, because I was found blameless before him; and also before you, O king, I have done no harm.

בֵּ֗אדַיִן מַלְכָּ֤א שַׂגִּיא֙ טְאֵ֣ב עֲלֹ֔והִי וּלְדָנִיֵּ֖אל אֲמַ֣ר לְהַנְסָקָ֑ה וְהֻסַּ֤ק דָּנִיֵּאל֙ מִן גֻּבָּ֔א וְכָ֨ל חֲבָ֧ל לָ֛א הִשְׁתְּכַ֥ח בֵּ֖הּ דִּ֥י הֵימַ֖ן בֵּאלָהֵֽהּ׃

KJVThen was the king exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.

Then the king was exceedingly glad, and commanded that Daniel be taken up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no kind of harm was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.

וַאֲמַ֤ר מַלְכָּא֙ וְהַיְתִ֣יו גֻּבְרַיָּ֣א אִלֵּ֡ךְ דִּ֣י אֲכַ֣לוּ קַרְצֹ֡והִי דִּ֣י דָנִיֵּ֡אל וּֽלְגֹ֣וב אַרְיָוָתָ֡א רְמ֡וֹ הִמּ֡וֹן הִמּ֡וֹן וּבְנֵיה֡וֹן וּנְשֵׁיהֹ֡ון וְלָ֣א מְטוּ֡ לְאַרְעִ֡ית גֻּבָּ֡א עַ֣ד דִּֽי שְׁלִ֡טוּ בְה֡וֹן אַרְיָוָתָ֡א וְכָל גַּרְמֵיה֡וֹן הַדִּ֡קוּ׃

KJVAnd the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.

And the king commanded, and those men who had maliciously accused Daniel were brought and cast into the den of lions—they, their children, and their wives. And before they reached the bottom of the den, the lions overpowered them and broke all their bones in pieces.

בֵּ֗אדַיִן דָּרְיָ֤וֶשׁ מַלְכָּא֙ כְּתַ֣ב לְכָל עַֽמְמַיָּ֤א אֻמַּיָּא֙ וְלִשָּׁ֣נַיָּ֔א דִּ֥י דָיְרִ֖ין בְּכָל אַרְעָ֑א שְׁלָֽמְכֹ֖ון יִשְׂגֵּֽא׃

KJVThen king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.

Then King Darius wrote to all the peoples, nations, and languages that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you.

מִן קֳדָמִ֗י שִׂ֤ים טְעֵם֙ דִּ֣י בְּכָל שָׁלְטַ֣ן מַלְכוּתִ֡י לֶהֱוֹ֩ון זָיְעִ֨ין וְדָחֲלִ֜ין מִן קֳדָ֣ם אֱלָהֵ֣הּ דִּי דָנִיֵּ֡אל דִּ֣י הוּ֡א אֱלָהָ֣א חַיָּ֡א וְקַיָּ֡ם לְעָלְמַ֡יָּא וּמַלְכוּתֵ֣הּ דִּ֣י לָ֣א תִתְחַבַּ֡ל וְשָׁלְטָנֵ֣הּ עַד סוֹפָ֡א׃

KJVI make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.

I make a decree, that in all my royal dominion people are to tremble and fear before the God of Daniel, for he is the living God, enduring forever; his kingdom shall never be destroyed, and his dominion shall be to the end.

מְשֵׁיזִ֣ב וּמַצִּ֡יל וְעָבֵ֡ד אָתִ֡ין וְתִמְהִ֡ין בִּשְׁמַיָּ֡א וּבְאַרְעָ֡א דִּ֣י שֵׁיזִ֣ב לְדָנִיֵּ֡אל מִן יַ֡ד אַרְיָוָתָֽא׃

KJVHe delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.

He delivers and rescues; he works signs and wonders in heaven and on earth, he who has saved Daniel from the power of the lions.

וְדָנִיֵּ֣אל דְּנָ֗ה הַצְלַ֛ח בְּמַלְכ֥וּת דָּרְיָ֖וֶשׁ וּבְמַלְכ֥וּת כּ֖וֹרֶשׁ פָּרְסָאָֽה׃

KJVSo this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

So this Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
