Job Chapter 7 | KJV & Biblical Hebrew

הֲלֹא צָבָ֣א לֶאֱנ֣וֹשׁ עֲלֵי אָ֑רֶץ וְכִימֵ֥י שָׂ֝כִ֗יר יָמָֽיו׃

KJVIs there not an appointed time to man upon earth? are not his days also like the days of an hireling?

Has not man a hard service on earth, and are not his days like the days of a hired hand?

כְּעֶ֥בֶד יִשְׁאַף צֵ֑ל וּ֝כְשָׂכִ֗יר יְקַוֶּ֥ה פָעֳלֽוֹ׃

KJVAs a servant earnestly desireth the shadow, and as an hireling looketh for the reward of his work:

Like a slave who longs for the shadow, and like a hired hand who looks for his wages,

כֵּ֤ן הָנְחַ֣לְתִּי לִ֭י יַרְחֵי שָׁ֑וְא וְלֵיל֥וֹת עָ֝מָ֗ל מִנּוּ לִֽי׃

KJVSo am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me.

so I am allotted months of emptiness, and nights of misery are apportioned to me.

אִם שָׁכַ֥בְתִּי וְאָמַ֗רְתִּי מָתַ֥י אָ֭קוּם וּמִדַּ֥ד עָ֑רֶב וְשָׂבַ֥עְתִּי נְ֝דֻדִ֗ים עֲדֵי נָֽשֶׁף׃

KJVWhen I lie down, I say, When shall I arise, and the night be gone? and I am full of tossings to and fro unto the dawning of the day.

When I lie down I say: When shall I arise? But the night is long, and I am full of tossing till the dawn.

לָבַשׁ בְּשָׂרִ֣י רִמָּ֣ה וְגֻשׁ עָפָ֑ר עוֹרִ֥י רָ֝גַ֗ז וַיִּמָּאֵֽס׃

KJVMy flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust; my skin is broken, and become loathsome.

My flesh is clothed with worms and dirt; my skin hardens, then breaks out afresh.

יָמַ֣י קַ֭לּוּ מִנִּי אָ֑רֶג וַ֝יִּכְל֗וּ בְּאֶ֣פֶס תִּקְוָֽה׃

KJVMy days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, and are spent without hope.

My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle and come to their end without hope.

זְ֭כֹר כִּי ר֣וּחַ חַיָּ֑י לֹא תָשׁ֥וּב עֵ֝ינִ֗י לִרְא֥וֹת טֽוֹב׃

KJVO remember that my life is wind: mine eye shall no more see good.

Remember that my life is a breath; my eye will never again see good.

לֹ֣א תְשׁוּרֵ֣נִי עֵ֣ין רֹאִ֑י עֵינֶ֥יךָ בִ֝֗י וְאֵינֶֽנִּי׃

KJVThe eye of him that hath seen me shall see me no more: thine eyes are upon me, and I am not.

The eye of him who sees me will behold me no more; while your eyes are on me, I shall be gone.

כָּלָ֣ה עָ֭נָן וַיֵּלַ֑ךְ כֵּ֤ן יוֹרֵ֥ד שְׁא֗וֹל לֹ֣א יַעֲלֶֽה׃

KJVAs the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more.

As the cloud fades and vanishes, so he who goes down to Sheol does not come up;

לֹֽא יָשׁ֣וּב ע֭וֹד לְבֵית֑וֹ וְלֹֽא יַכִּירֶ֥נּוּ ע֝֗וֹד מְקֹמֽוֹ׃

KJVHe shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more.

he returns no more to his house, nor does his place know him anymore.

גַּם אֲנִ֣י לֹ֭א אֶחֱשָׂ֣ךְ פִּ֑י אֲדַבְּרָ֥ה בְּ֝צַ֗ר ר֥וּחִי אָשִׂ֗יחָה בְּמַ֣ר נַפְשִֽׁי׃

KJVTherefore I will not refrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

Therefore I will not restrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

הֲ יָ֣ם אֲ֭נִי אִם תַּנִּ֑ין כִּי תָשִׂ֖ים עָלַ֣י מִשְׁמָֽר׃

KJVAm I a sea, or a whale, that thou settest a watch over me?

Am I the sea, or a sea monster, that you set a guard over me?

כִּ֤י אָמַ֗רְתִּי תְּנַחֲמֵ֥נִי עַרְשִׂ֑י יִשָּׂ֥א בְ֝שִׂיחִ֗י מִשְׁכָּבִֽי׃

KJVWhen I say, My bed shall comfort me, my couch shall ease my complaint;

When I say: My bed will comfort me, my couch will ease my complaint,

וְחִתַּתַּ֥נִי בַחֲלֹמ֑וֹת וּמֵחֶזְיֹנ֥וֹת תְּבַעֲתַֽנִּי׃

KJVThen thou scarest me with dreams, and terrifiest me through visions:

then you scare me with dreams and terrify me with visions,

וַתִּבְחַ֣ר מַחֲנָ֣ק נַפְשִׁ֑י מָ֝וֶת מֵֽעַצְמוֹתָֽי׃

KJVSo that my soul chooseth strangling, and death rather than my life.

so that I would choose strangling and death rather than my bones.

16

מָאַ֥סְתִּי לֹא לְעֹלָ֣ם אֶחְיֶ֑ה חֲדַ֥ל מִ֝מֶּ֗נִּי כִּי הֶ֣בֶל יָמָֽי׃

KJVI lothe it; I would not live alway: let me alone; for my days are vanity.

I loathe my life; I would not live forever. Leave me alone, for my days are a breath.

מָֽה אֱנ֣וֹשׁ כִּ֣י תְגַדְּלֶ֑נּוּ וְכִ֥י תָשִׁ֥ית אֵ֝לָ֗יו לִבֶּֽךָ׃

KJVWhat is man, that thou shouldest magnify him? and that thou shouldest set thine heart upon him?

What is man, that you make so much of him, and that you set your heart on him,

וַתִּפְקְדֶ֥נּוּ לִבְקָרִ֑ים לִ֝רְגָעִ֗ים תִּבְחָנֶֽנּוּ׃

KJVAnd that thou shouldest visit him every morning, and try him every moment?

visit him every morning and test him every moment?

19

כַּ֭מָּה לֹֽא תִשְׁעֶ֣ה מִמֶּ֑נִּי לֹ֣א תַ֝רְפֵּ֗נִי עַד בִּלְעִ֥י רֻקִּֽי׃

KJVHow long wilt thou not depart from me, nor let me alone till I swallow down my spittle?

How long will you not look away from me, nor leave me alone till I swallow my spit?

חָטָ֗אתִי מָ֭ה אֶפְעַ֣ל לָ֑ךְ נֹצֵ֥ר הָ֝אָדָ֗ם לָ֣מָּה שַׂמְתַּ֥נִי לְמִפְגָּ֗ע לָ֣ךְ וָאֶהְיֶ֥ה עָלַ֗י לְמַשָּֽׂא׃

KJVI have sinned; what shall I do unto thee, O thou preserver of men? why hast thou set me as a mark against thee, so that I am a burden to myself?

If I sin, what do I do to you, you watcher of mankind? Why have you made me your mark? Why have I become a burden to you?

וּמֶ֤ה לֹא תִשָּׂ֣א פִשְׁעִ֣י וְתַעֲבִ֣יר אֶת עֲוֺנִ֑י כִּֽי עַ֥תָּה לֶ֝עָפָ֗ר אֶשְׁכָּ֥ב וְשִׁחֲרְתַּ֖נִי וְאֵינֶֽנִּי׃

KJVAnd why dost thou not pardon my transgression, and take away mine iniquity? for now shall I sleep in the dust; and thou shalt seek me in the morning, but I shall not be.

Why do you not pardon my transgression and take away my iniquity? For now I shall lie in the earth; you will seek me, but I shall not be.
