לָמָ֣ה יְ֭הוָה תַּעֲמֹ֣ד בְּרָח֑וֹק תַּ֝עְלִ֗ים לְעִתּ֥וֹת בַּצָּרָֽה׃

KJVWhy standest thou afar off, O LORD? why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?

Why, O LORD, do you stand far away? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?

בְּגַאֲוַ֣ת רָ֭שָׁע יִדְלַ֣ק עָנִ֑י יִתָּפְשׂ֥וּ בִ֝מְזִמּ֗וֹת ז֣וּ חָשָֽׁבוּ׃

KJVThe wicked in his pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.

In arrogance the wicked hotly pursue the poor; let them be caught in the schemes that they have devised.

כִּֽי הִלֵּ֣ל רָ֭שָׁע עַל תַּאֲוַ֣ת נַפְשׁ֑וֹ וּבֹצֵ֥עַ בֵּ֝רֵ֗ךְ נִאֵ֥ץ יְהוָֽה׃

KJVFor the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth.

For the wicked boasts of the desires of his soul, and the one greedy for gain curses and renounces the LORD.

רָשָׁ֗ע כְּגֹ֣בַהּ אַ֭פּוֹ בַּל יִדְרֹ֑שׁ אֵ֥ין אֱ֝לֹהִ֗ים כָּל מְזִמּוֹתָֽיו׃

KJVThe wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.

In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him; all his thoughts are: There is no God.

יָח֣וּלוּ דְ֭רָכָיו בְּכָל עֵ֑ת מָר֥וֹם מִ֝שְׁפָּטֶ֗יךָ מִנֶּגְדּ֥וֹ כָּל צוֹרְרָ֥יו יָפִ֗יחַ בָּהֶֽם׃

KJVHis ways are always grievous; thy judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them.

His ways prosper at all times; your judgments are on high, out of his sight; as for all his foes, he puffs at them.

אָמַ֣ר בְּ֭לִבּוֹ בַּל אֶמּ֑וֹט לְדֹ֥ר וָ֝דֹ֗ר אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹֽא בְרָֽע׃

KJVHe hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity.

He says in his heart: I shall not be moved; throughout all generations I shall not meet adversity.

אָלָ֣ה פִ֭יהוּ מָלֵ֣א וּמִרְמ֑וֹת וָ֝תֹ֗ךְ תַּ֣חַת לְשׁוֹנ֣וֹ עָמָ֣ל וָאָֽוֶן׃

KJVHis mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.

His mouth is filled with cursing and deceit and oppression; under his tongue are mischief and iniquity.

יֵ֘שֵׁ֤ב בְּמַאְרַ֣ב חֲ֭צֵרִים בַּמִּסְתָּרִ֣ים יַהֲרֹ֣ג נָקִ֑י עֵינָ֥יו לְ֝חֵלְכָ֗ה יִצְפֹּֽנוּ׃

KJVHe sitteth in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor.

He sits in ambush in the villages; in hiding places he murders the innocent. His eyes stealthily watch for the helpless;

יֶ֘אֱרֹ֤ב בַּמִּסְתָּ֨ר ׀ כְּאַרְיֵ֗ה בְסֻכֹּ֥ה יֶאֱרֹ֗ב לַחֲטֹ֥ף עָנִ֗י יַחְטֹ֑ף עָנִ֥י בְּמָשְׁכ֗וֹ בְרִשְׁתּֽוֹ׃

KJVHe lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lieth in wait to catch the poor: he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him into his net.

he lurks in ambush like a lion in his thicket; he lurks that he may seize the poor; he seizes the poor when he draws him into his net.

יִדְכֶּ֣ה יָ֭שֹׁחַ וְנָפַ֣ל בַּחֲלָכָאִ֑ים חֵ֝ילוֹ עֲצוּמָֽיו׃

KJVHe croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.

The helpless are crushed, sink down, and fall by his might.

אָמַ֣ר בְּ֭לִבּוֹ שָׁכַ֣ח אֵ֑ל הִסְתִּ֥יר פָּ֝נָ֗יו בַּל רָאָ֥ה לָנֶֽצַח׃

KJVHe hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it.

He says in his heart: God has forgotten, he has hidden his face, he will never see it.

ק֘וּמָ֤ה יְהוָ֗ה אֵ֣ל נְ֭שָׂא יָדֶ֑ךָ אַל תִּ֝שְׁכַּ֗ח עֲנָוִֽים׃

KJVArise, O LORD; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble.

Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up your hand; forget not the afflicted.

עַל מֶ֭ה נִאֵ֣ץ רָשָׁ֣ע אֱלֹהִ֑ים אָ֘מַ֤ר בְּלִבּ֗וֹ לֹ֣א תִדְרֹֽשׁ׃

KJVWherefore doth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require it.

Why does the wicked renounce God and say in his heart: You will not call to account?

רָאִ֡תָה כִּֽי אַתָּ֡ה עָמָ֤ל וָכַ֗עַס תַּבִּ֗יט לָתֵ֣ת בְּיָדֶ֣ךָ עָ֭לֶיךָ יַעֲזֹ֣ב חֵלֵכָ֑ה יָ֝ת֗וֹם אַתָּ֥ה הָיִ֗יתָ עוֹזֵֽר׃

KJVThou hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor committeth himself unto thee; thou art the helper of the fatherless.

But you do see, for you note mischief and vexation, that you may take it into your hands; to you the helpless commits himself; you have been the helper of the fatherless.

שְׁבֹ֣ר זְר֣וֹעַ רָשָׁ֑ע וָ֝רָ֗ע תִּדְרוֹשׁ רִשְׁע֥וֹ בַל תִּמְצָֽא׃

KJVBreak thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek out his wickedness till thou find none.

Break the arm of the wicked and evildoer; call his wickedness to account till you find none.

יְהוָ֣ה מֶ֭לֶךְ עוֹלָ֣ם וָעֶ֑ד אָ֘בְד֤וּ ג֘וֹיִ֤ם מֵאַרְצ֗וֹ׃

KJVThe LORD is King for ever and ever: the heathen are perished out of his land.

The LORD is king forever and ever; the nations perish from his land.

תַּאֲוַ֣ת עֲ֭נָוִים שָׁמַ֣עְתָּ יְהוָ֑ה תָּכִ֥ין לִ֝בָּ֗ם תַּקְשִׁ֥יב אָזְנֶֽךָ׃

KJVLORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear:

O LORD, you hear the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear

לִשְׁפֹּ֥ט יָת֗וֹם וָ֫דָ֥ךְ בַּל יוֹסִ֥יף ע֗וֹד לַעֲרֹ֥ץ אֱנ֗וֹשׁ מִן הָאָֽרֶץ׃

KJVTo judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.

to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.
