Τὸ δὲ Πνεῦμα ῥητῶς λέγει, ὅτι ἐν ὑστέροις καιροῖς ἀποστήσονταί τινες τῆς πίστεως, προσέχοντες πνεύμασιν πλάνοις καὶ διδασκαλίαις δαιμονίων,

KJVNow the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.

ἐν ὑποκρίσει ψευδολόγων, κεκαυτηριασμένων τὴν ἰδίαν συνείδησιν,

KJVSpeaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.

κωλυόντων γαμεῖν, ἀπέχεσθαι βρωμάτων, ἃ ὁ Θεὸς ἔκτισεν εἰς μετάληψιν μετὰ εὐχαριστίας τοῖς πιστοῖς καὶ ἐπεγνωκόσιν τὴν ἀλήθειαν.

KJVForbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth.

Ὅτι πᾶν κτίσμα Θεοῦ καλόν, καὶ οὐδὲν ἀπόβλητον, μετὰ εὐχαριστίας λαμβανόμενον·

KJVFor every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:

For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,

ἁγιάζεται γὰρ διὰ λόγου Θεοῦ καὶ ἐντεύξεως.

KJVFor it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.

Ταῦτα ὑποτιθέμενος τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς καλὸς ἔσῃ διάκονος Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, ἐντρεφόμενος τοῖς λόγοις τῆς πίστεως, καὶ τῆς καλῆς διδασκαλίας ᾗ παρηκολούθηκας.

KJVIf thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed.

Τοὺς δὲ βεβήλους καὶ γραώδεις μύθους παραιτοῦ. Γύμναζε δὲ σεαυτὸν πρὸς εὐσέβειαν·

KJVBut refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales; rather, train yourself to be godly.

ἡ γὰρ σωματικὴ γυμνασία πρὸς ὀλίγον ἐστὶν ὠφέλιμος· ἡ δὲ εὐσέβεια πρὸς πάντα ὠφέλιμός ἐστιν, ἐπαγγελίαν ἔχουσα ζωῆς τῆς νῦν καὶ τῆς μελλούσης.

KJVFor bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

Πιστὸς ὁ λόγος καὶ πάσης ἀποδοχῆς ἄξιος.

KJVThis is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.

This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance.

Εἰς τοῦτο γὰρ καὶ κοπιῶμεν καὶ ὀνειδιζόμεθα, ὅτι ἠλπίκαμεν ἐπὶ Θεῷ ζῶντι, ὅς ἐστιν σωτὴρ πάντων ἀνθρώπων, μάλιστα πιστῶν.

KJVFor therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe.

Παράγγελλε ταῦτα καὶ δίδασκε.

KJVThese things command and teach.

Command and teach these things.

μηδείς σου τῆς νεότητος καταφρονείτω, ἀλλὰ τύπος γίνου τῶν πιστῶν ἐν λόγῳ, ἐν ἀναστροφῇ, ἐν ἀγάπῃ, ἐν πνεύματι, ἐν πίστει, ἐν ἁγνείᾳ.

KJVLet no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

Ἕως ἔρχομαι, πρόσεχε τῇ ἀναγνώσει, τῇ παρακλήσει, τῇ διδασκαλίᾳ.

KJVTill I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching.

Μὴ ἀμέλει τοῦ ἐν σοὶ χαρίσματος, ὃ ἐδόθη σοι διὰ προφητείας μετὰ ἐπιθέσεως τῶν χειρῶν τοῦ πρεσβυτερίου.

KJVNeglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you.

Ταῦτα μελέτα, ἐν τούτοις ἴσθι, ἵνα σου ἡ προκοπὴ φανερὰ ᾖ ἐν πᾶσιν.

KJVMeditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.

Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress.

Ἔπεχε σεαυτῷ καὶ τῇ διδασκαλίᾳ. Ἐπίμενε αὐτοῖς· τοῦτο γὰρ ποιῶν καὶ σεαυτὸν σώσεις καὶ τοὺς ἀκούοντάς σου.

KJVTake heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.
