ηγγιζεν δε η εορτη των αζυμων η λεγομενη πασχα

KJVNow the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.

Now the feast of unleavened bread, which is called the Passover, was approaching.

2

και εζητουν οι αρχιερεις και οι γραμματεις το πως ανελωσιν αυτον εφοβουντο γαρ τον λαον

KJVAnd the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.

The chief priests and the scribes sought how they might put him to death, for they feared the people.

εισηλθεν δε ο σατανας εις ιουδαν τον επικαλουμενον ισκαριωτην οντα εκ του αριθμου των δωδεκα

KJVThen entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.

Satan entered into Judas, who was also called Iscariot, who was counted with the twelve.

και απελθων συνελαλησεν τοις αρχιερευσιν και τοις στρατηγοις το πως αυτον παραδω αυτοις

KJVAnd he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.

He went away, and talked with the chief priests and captains about how he might deliver him to them.

και εχαρησαν και συνεθεντο αυτω αργυριον δουναι

KJVAnd they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.

They were glad, and agreed to give him money.

και εξωμολογησεν και εζητει ευκαιριαν του παραδουναι αυτον αυτοις ατερ οχλου

KJVAnd he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude. {in the...: or, without tumult}

He consented, and sought an opportunity to deliver him to them in the absence of the multitude.

ηλθεν δε η ημερα των αζυμων εν η εδει θυεσθαι το πασχα

KJVThen came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.

The day of unleavened bread came, on which the Passover must be sacrificed.

και απεστειλεν πετρον και ιωαννην ειπων πορευθεντες ετοιμασατε ημιν το πασχα ινα φαγωμεν

KJVAnd he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.

Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat.”

οι δε ειπον αυτω που θελεις ετοιμασωμεν

KJVAnd they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?

They said to him, “Where do you want us to prepare?”

10

ο δε ειπεν αυτοις ιδου εισελθοντων υμων εις την πολιν συναντησει υμιν ανθρωπος κεραμιον υδατος βασταζων ακολουθησατε αυτω εις την οικιαν ου εισπορευεται

KJVAnd he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.

He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered into the city, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you. Follow him into the house which he enters.

και ερειτε τω οικοδεσποτη της οικιας λεγει σοι ο διδασκαλος που εστιν το καταλυμα οπου το πασχα μετα των μαθητων μου φαγω

KJVAnd ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

Tell the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”’

κακεινος υμιν δειξει ανωγεον μεγα εστρωμενον εκει ετοιμασατε

KJVAnd he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.

He will show you a large, furnished upper room. Make preparations there.”

13

απελθοντες δε ευρον καθως ειρηκεν αυτοις και ητοιμασαν το πασχα

KJVAnd they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.

They went, found things as Jesus had told them, and they prepared the Passover.

14

και οτε εγενετο η ωρα ανεπεσεν και οι δωδεκα αποστολοι συν αυτω

KJVAnd when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.

When the hour had come, he sat down with the twelve apostles.

15

και ειπεν προς αυτους επιθυμια επεθυμησα τουτο το πασχα φαγειν μεθ υμων προ του με παθειν

KJVAnd he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: {With desire...: or, I have heartily desired}

He said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer,

λεγω γαρ υμιν οτι ουκετι ου μη φαγω εξ αυτου εως οτου πληρωθη εν τη βασιλεια του θεου

KJVFor I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

for I tell you, I will no longer by any means eat of it until it is fulfilled in God’s Kingdom.”

και δεξαμενος ποτηριον ευχαριστησας ειπεν λαβετε τουτο και διαμερισατε εαυτοις

KJVAnd he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide {it} among yourselves:

He received a cup, and when he had given thanks, he said, “Take this, and share it among yourselves,

λεγω γαρ υμιν οτι ου μη πιω απο του γεννηματος της αμπελου εως οτου η βασιλεια του θεου ελθη

KJVFor I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.

for I tell you, I will not drink at all again from the fruit of the vine, until God’s Kingdom comes.”

και λαβων αρτον ευχαριστησας εκλασεν και εδωκεν αυτοις λεγων τουτο εστιν το σωμα μου το υπερ υμων διδομενον τουτο ποιειτε εις την εμην αναμνησιν

KJVAnd he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake {it}, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

He took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body which is given for you. Do this in memory of me.”

ωσαυτως και το ποτηριον μετα το δειπνησαι λεγων τουτο το ποτηριον η καινη διαθηκη εν τω αιματι μου το υπερ υμων εκχυνομενον

KJVLikewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup {is} the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

Likewise, he took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.

πλην ιδου η χειρ του παραδιδοντος με μετ εμου επι της τραπεζης

KJVBut, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me {is} with me on the table.

But behold, the hand of him who betrays me is with me on the table.

22

και ο μεν υιος του ανθρωπου πορευεται κατα το ωρισμενον πλην ουαι τω ανθρωπω εκεινω δι ου παραδιδοται

KJVAnd truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!

The Son of Man indeed goes, as it has been determined, but woe to that man through whom he is betrayed!”

και αυτοι ηρξαντο συζητειν προς εαυτους το τις αρα ειη εξ αυτων ο τουτο μελλων πρασσειν

KJVAnd they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.

They began to question among themselves, which of them it was who would do this thing.

24

εγενετο δε και φιλονεικια εν αυτοις το τις αυτων δοκει ειναι μειζων

KJVAnd there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.

There arose also a contention among them, which of them was considered to be greatest.

25

ο δε ειπεν αυτοις οι βασιλεις των εθνων κυριευουσιν αυτων και οι εξουσιαζοντες αυτων ευεργεται καλουνται

KJVAnd he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.

He said to them, “The kings of the nations lord it over them, and those who have authority over them are called ‘benefactors.’

υμεις δε ουχ ουτως αλλ ο μειζων εν υμιν γενεσθω ως ο νεωτερος και ο ηγουμενος ως ο διακονων

KJVBut ye {shall} not {be} so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.

But not so with you. But one who is the greater among you, let him become as the younger, and one who is governing, as one who serves.

27

τις γαρ μειζων ο ανακειμενος η ο διακονων ουχι ο ανακειμενος εγω δε ειμι εν μεσω υμων ως ο διακονων

KJVFor whether {is} greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? {is} not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.

For who is greater, one who sits at the table, or one who serves? Isn’t it he who sits at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.

28

υμεις δε εστε οι διαμεμενηκοτες μετ εμου εν τοις πειρασμοις μου

KJVYe are they which have continued with me in my temptations.

But you are those who have continued with me in my trials.

29

καγω διατιθεμαι υμιν καθως διεθετο μοι ο πατηρ μου βασιλειαν

KJVAnd I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;

I confer on you a kingdom, even as my Father conferred on me,

30

ινα εσθιητε και πινητε επι της τραπεζης μου εν τη βασιλεια μου και καθισησθε επι θρονων κρινοντες τας δωδεκα φυλας του ισραηλ

KJVThat ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

that you may eat and drink at my table in my Kingdom. You will sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”

ειπεν δε ο κυριος σιμων σιμων ιδου ο σατανας εξητησατο υμας του σινιασαι ως τον σιτον

KJVAnd the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired {to have} you, that he may sift {you} as wheat:

The Lord said, “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan asked to have all of you, that he might sift you as wheat,

εγω δε εδεηθην περι σου ινα μη εκλειπη η πιστις σου και συ ποτε επιστρεψας στηριξον τους αδελφους σου

KJVBut I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

but I prayed for you, that your faith wouldn’t fail. You, when once you have turned again, establish your brothers.”

33

ο δε ειπεν αυτω κυριε μετα σου ετοιμος ειμι και εις φυλακην και εις θανατον πορευεσθαι

KJVAnd he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.

He said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death!”

34

ο δε ειπεν λεγω σοι πετρε ου μη φωνησει σημερον αλεκτωρ πριν η τρις απαρνηση μη ειδεναι με

KJVAnd he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

He said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will by no means crow today until you deny that you know me three times.”

35

και ειπεν αυτοις οτε απεστειλα υμας ατερ βαλαντιου και πηρας και υποδηματων μη τινος υστερησατε οι δε ειπον ουδενος

KJVAnd he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.

He said to them, “When I sent you out without purse, and wallet, and shoes, did you lack anything?” They said, “Nothing.”

ειπεν ουν αυτοις αλλα νυν ο εχων βαλαντιον αρατω ομοιως και πηραν και ο μη εχων πωλησατω το ιματιον αυτου και αγορασατω μαχαιραν

KJVThen said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take {it}, and likewise {his} scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

Then he said to them, “But now, whoever has a purse, let him take it, and likewise a wallet. Whoever has none, let him sell his cloak, and buy a sword.

λεγω γαρ υμιν οτι ετι τουτο το γεγραμμενον δει τελεσθηναι εν εμοι το και μετα ανομων ελογισθη και γαρ τα περι εμου τελος εχει

KJVFor I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.

For I tell you that this which is written must still be fulfilled in me: ‘He was counted with transgressors.’ For that which concerns me has an end.”

οι δε ειπον κυριε ιδου μαχαιραι ωδε δυο ο δε ειπεν αυτοις ικανον εστιν

KJVAnd they said, Lord, behold, here {are} two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.

They said, “Lord, behold, here are two swords.” He said to them, “That is enough.”

39

και εξελθων επορευθη κατα το εθος εις το ορος των ελαιων ηκολουθησαν δε αυτω και οι μαθηται αυτου

KJVAnd he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.

He came out, and went, as his custom was, to the Mount of Olives. His disciples also followed him.

40

γενομενος δε επι του τοπου ειπεν αυτοις προσευχεσθε μη εισελθειν εις πειρασμον

KJVAnd when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.

When he was at the place, he said to them, “Pray that you don’t enter into temptation.”

41

και αυτος απεσπασθη απ αυτων ωσει λιθου βολην και θεις τα γονατα προσηυχετο

KJVAnd he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,

He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and he knelt down and prayed,

42

λεγων πατερ ει βουλει παρενεγκειν παρενεγκε το ποτηριον τουτο απ εμου πλην μη το θελημα μου αλλα το σον γενεσθω

KJVSaying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. {willing, remove: Gr. willing to remove}

saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”

43

ωφθη δε αυτω αγγελος απ ουρανου ενισχυων αυτον

KJVAnd there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.

An angel from heaven appeared to him, strengthening him.

44

και γενομενος εν αγωνια εκτενεστερον προσηυχετο εγενετο δε ο ιδρως αυτου ωσει θρομβοι αιματος καταβαινοντες επι την γην

KJVAnd being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

Being in agony he prayed more earnestly. His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down on the ground.

45

και αναστας απο της προσευχης ελθων προς τους μαθητας αυτου ευρεν αυτους κοιμωμενους απο της λυπης

KJVAnd when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,

When he rose up from his prayer, he came to the disciples, and found them sleeping because of grief,

46

και ειπεν αυτοις τι καθευδετε ανασταντες προσευχεσθε ινα μη εισελθητε εις πειρασμον

KJVAnd said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

and said to them, “Why do you sleep? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”

47

ετι δε αυτου λαλουντος ιδου οχλος και ο λεγομενος ιουδας εις των δωδεκα προηρχετο αυτων και ηγγισεν τω ιησου φιλησαι αυτον

KJVAnd while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.

While he was still speaking, behold, a multitude, and he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He came near to Jesus to kiss him.

ο δε ιησους ειπεν αυτω ιουδα φιληματι τον υιον του ανθρωπου παραδιδως

KJVBut Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?

But Jesus said to him, “Judas, do you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?”

49

ιδοντες δε οι περι αυτον το εσομενον ειπον αυτω κυριε ει παταξομεν εν μαχαιρα

KJVWhen they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?

When those who were around him saw what was about to happen, they said to him, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?”

50

και επαταξεν εις τις εξ αυτων τον δουλον του αρχιερεως και αφειλεν αυτου το ους το δεξιον

KJVAnd one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.

A certain one of them struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.

51

αποκριθεις δε ο ιησους ειπεν εατε εως τουτου και αψαμενος του ωτιου αυτου ιασατο αυτον

KJVAnd Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.

But Jesus answered, “Let me at least do this”—and he touched his ear, and healed him.

ειπεν δε ο ιησους προς τους παραγενομενους επ αυτον αρχιερεις και στρατηγους του ιερου και πρεσβυτερους ως επι ληστην εξεληλυθατε μετα μαχαιρων και ξυλων

KJVThen Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves?

Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and elders, who had come against him, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs?

καθ ημεραν οντος μου μεθ υμων εν τω ιερω ουκ εξετεινατε τας χειρας επ εμε αλλ αυτη υμων εστιν η ωρα και η εξουσια του σκοτους

KJVWhen I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.

When I was with you in the temple daily, you didn’t stretch out your hands against me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”

συλλαβοντες δε αυτον ηγαγον και εισηγαγον αυτον εις τον οικον του αρχιερεως ο δε πετρος ηκολουθει μακροθεν

KJVThen took they him, and led {him}, and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off.

They seized him, and led him away, and brought him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed from a distance.

αψαντων δε πυρ εν μεσω της αυλης και συγκαθισαντων αυτων εκαθητο ο πετρος εν μεσω αυτων

KJVAnd when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them.

When they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard, and had sat down together, Peter sat among them.

ιδουσα δε αυτον παιδισκη τις καθημενον προς το φως και ατενισασα αυτω ειπεν και ουτος συν αυτω ην

KJVBut a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him.

A certain servant girl saw him as he sat in the light, and looking intently at him, said, “This man also was with him.”

57

ο δε ηρνησατο αυτον λεγων γυναι ουκ οιδα αυτον

KJVAnd he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.

He denied Jesus, saying, “Woman, I don’t know him.”

58

και μετα βραχυ ετερος ιδων αυτον εφη και συ εξ αυτων ει ο δε πετρος ειπεν ανθρωπε ουκ ειμι

KJVAnd after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.

After a little while someone else saw him, and said, “You also are one of them!” But Peter answered, “Man, I am not!”

και διαστασης ωσει ωρας μιας αλλος τις διισχυριζετο λεγων επ αληθειας και ουτος μετ αυτου ην και γαρ γαλιλαιος εστιν

KJVAnd about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this {fellow} also was with him: for he is a Galilaean.

After about one hour passed, another confidently affirmed, saying, “Truly this man also was with him, for he is a Galilean!”

60

ειπεν δε ο πετρος ανθρωπε ουκ οιδα ο λεγεις και παραχρημα ετι λαλουντος αυτου εφωνησεν ο αλεκτωρ

KJVAnd Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.

But Peter said, “Man, I don’t know what you are talking about!” Immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.

και στραφεις ο κυριος ενεβλεψεν τω πετρω και υπεμνησθη ο πετρος του λογου του κυριου ως ειπεν αυτω οτι πριν αλεκτορα φωνησαι απαρνηση με τρις

KJVAnd the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

The Lord turned, and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the Lord’s word, how he said to him, “Before the rooster crows you will deny me three times.”

και εξελθων εξω ο πετρος εκλαυσεν πικρως

KJVAnd Peter went out, and wept bitterly.

He went out, and wept bitterly.

63

και οι ανδρες οι συνεχοντες τον ιησουν ενεπαιζον αυτω δεροντες

KJVAnd the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote {him}.

The men who held Jesus mocked him and beat him.

64

και περικαλυψαντες αυτον ετυπτον αυτου το προσωπον και επηρωτων αυτον λεγοντες προφητευσον τις εστιν ο παισας σε

KJVAnd when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?

Having blindfolded him, they struck him on the face and asked him, “Prophesy! Who is the one who struck you?”

και ετερα πολλα βλασφημουντες ελεγον εις αυτον

KJVAnd many other things blasphemously spake they against him.

They spoke many other things against him, insulting him.

66

και ως εγενετο ημερα συνηχθη το πρεσβυτεριον του λαου αρχιερεις τε και γραμματεις και ανηγαγον αυτον εις το συνεδριον εαυτων λεγοντες

KJVAnd as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying,

As soon as it was day, the assembly of the elders of the people were gathered together, both chief priests and scribes, and they led him away into their council, saying,

ει συ ει ο χριστος ειπε ημιν ειπεν δε αυτοις εαν υμιν ειπω ου μη πιστευσητε

KJVArt thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:

“If you are the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them, “If I tell you, you won’t believe,

εαν δε και ερωτησω ου μη αποκριθητε μοι η απολυσητε

KJVAnd if I also ask {you}, ye will not answer me, nor let {me} go.

and if I ask, you will in no way answer me or let me go.

69

απο του νυν εσται ο υιος του ανθρωπου καθημενος εκ δεξιων της δυναμεως του θεου

KJVHereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.

From now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God.”

70

ειπον δε παντες συ ουν ει ο υιος του θεου ο δε προς αυτους εφη υμεις λεγετε οτι εγω ειμι

KJVThen said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.

They all said, “Are you then the Son of God?” He said to them, “You say it, because I am.”

οι δε ειπον τι ετι χρειαν εχομεν μαρτυριας αυτοι γαρ ηκουσαμεν απο του στοματος αυτου

KJVAnd they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.

They said, “Why do we need any more witness? For we ourselves have heard from his own mouth!”
