και μεθ ημερας εξ παραλαμβανει ο ιησους τον πετρον και ιακωβον και ιωαννην τον αδελφον αυτου και αναφερει αυτους εις ορος υψηλον κατ ιδιαν

KJVAnd after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,

After six days, Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up into a high mountain by themselves.

και μετεμορφωθη εμπροσθεν αυτων και ελαμψεν το προσωπον αυτου ως ο ηλιος τα δε ιματια αυτου εγενετο λευκα ως το φως

KJVAnd was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.

He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his garments became as white as the light.

και ιδου ωφθησαν αυτοις μωσης και ηλιας μετ αυτου συλλαλουντες

KJVAnd, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.

Behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them talking with him.

αποκριθεις δε ο πετρος ειπεν τω ιησου κυριε καλον εστιν ημας ωδε ειναι ει θελεις ποιησωμεν ωδε τρεις σκηνας σοι μιαν και μωση μιαν και μιαν ηλια

KJVThen answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

Peter answered, and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you want, let’s make three tents here: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

ετι αυτου λαλουντος ιδου νεφελη φωτεινη επεσκιασεν αυτους και ιδου φωνη εκ της νεφελης λεγουσα ουτος εστιν ο υιος μου ο αγαπητος εν ω ευδοκησα αυτου ακουετε

KJVWhile he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them. Behold, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.”

και ακουσαντες οι μαθηται επεσον επι προσωπον αυτων και εφοβηθησαν σφοδρα

KJVAnd when the disciples heard {it}, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.

When the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces, and were very afraid.

και προσελθων ο ιησους ηψατο αυτων και ειπεν εγερθητε και μη φοβεισθε

KJVAnd Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.

Jesus came and touched them and said, “Get up, and don’t be afraid.”

επαραντες δε τους οφθαλμους αυτων ουδενα ειδον ει μη τον ιησουν μονον

KJVAnd when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.

Lifting up their eyes, they saw no one, except Jesus alone.

και καταβαινοντων αυτων απο του ορους ενετειλατο αυτοις ο ιησους λεγων μηδενι ειπητε το οραμα εως ου ο υιος του ανθρωπου εκ νεκρων αναστη

KJVAnd as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.

As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Don’t tell anyone what you saw, until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.”

και επηρωτησαν αυτον οι μαθηται αυτου λεγοντες τι ουν οι γραμματεις λεγουσιν οτι ηλιαν δει ελθειν πρωτον

KJVAnd his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?

His disciples asked him, saying, “Then why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”

ο δε ιησους αποκριθεις ειπεν αυτοις ηλιας μεν ερχεται πρωτον και αποκαταστησει παντα

KJVAnd Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.

Jesus answered them, “Elijah indeed comes first, and will restore all things,

λεγω δε υμιν οτι ηλιας ηδη ηλθεν και ουκ επεγνωσαν αυτον αλλ εποιησαν εν αυτω οσα ηθελησαν ουτως και ο υιος του ανθρωπου μελλει πασχειν υπ αυτων

KJVBut I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.

but I tell you that Elijah has come already, and they didn’t recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted to. Even so the Son of Man will also suffer by them.”

τοτε συνηκαν οι μαθηται οτι περι ιωαννου του βαπτιστου ειπεν αυτοις

KJVThen the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.

Then the disciples understood that he spoke to them of John the Baptizer.

και ελθοντων αυτων προς τον οχλον προσηλθεν αυτω ανθρωπος γονυπετων αυτω (17:15) και λεγων

KJVAnd when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a {certain} man, kneeling down to him, and saying,

When they came to the multitude, a man came to him, kneeling down to him, and saying,

κυριε ελεησον μου τον υιον οτι σεληνιαζεται και κακως πασχει πολλακις γαρ πιπτει εις το πυρ και πολλακις εις το υδωρ

KJVLord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.

“Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is epileptic, and suffers grievously; for he often falls into the fire, and often into the water.

και προσηνεγκα αυτον τοις μαθηταις σου και ουκ ηδυνηθησαν αυτον θεραπευσαι

KJVAnd I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.

So I brought him to your disciples, and they could not cure him.”

17

αποκριθεις δε ο ιησους ειπεν ω γενεα απιστος και διεστραμμενη εως ποτε εσομαι μεθ υμων εως ποτε ανεξομαι υμων φερετε μοι αυτον ωδε

KJVThen Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.

Jesus answered, “Faithless and perverse generation! How long will I be with you? How long will I bear with you? Bring him here to me.”

και επετιμησεν αυτω ο ιησους και εξηλθεν απ αυτου το δαιμονιον και εθεραπευθη ο παις απο της ωρας εκεινης

KJVAnd Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.

Jesus rebuked him, the demon went out of him, and the boy was cured from that hour.

τοτε προσελθοντες οι μαθηται τω ιησου κατ ιδιαν ειπον δια τι ημεις ουκ ηδυνηθημεν εκβαλειν αυτο

KJVThen came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?

Then the disciples came to Jesus privately, and said, “Why weren’t we able to cast it out?”

ο δε ιησους ειπεν αυτοις δια την απιστιαν υμων αμην γαρ λεγω υμιν εαν εχητε πιστιν ως κοκκον σιναπεως ερειτε τω ορει τουτω μεταβηθι εντευθεν εκει και μεταβησεται και ουδεν αδυνατησει υμιν

KJVAnd Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

He said to them, “Because of your unbelief. For most certainly I tell you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

τουτο δε το γενος ουκ εκπορευεται ει μη εν προσευχη και νηστεια

KJVHowbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

But this kind doesn’t go out except by prayer and fasting.”

αναστρεφομενων δε αυτων εν τη γαλιλαια ειπεν αυτοις ο ιησους μελλει ο υιος του ανθρωπου παραδιδοσθαι εις χειρας ανθρωπων

KJVAnd while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:

While they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be delivered up into the hands of men,

και αποκτενουσιν αυτον και τη τριτη ημερα εγερθησεται και ελυπηθησαν σφοδρα

KJVAnd they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.

and they will kill him, and the third day he will be raised up.” They were exceedingly sorry.

ελθοντων δε αυτων εις καπερναουμ προσηλθον οι τα διδραχμα λαμβανοντες τω πετρω και ειπον ο διδασκαλος υμων ου τελει τα διδραχμα

KJVAnd when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute {money} came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute? {tribute: called in the original, didrachma, being in value fifteen pence sterling; about thirty seven cents}

When they had come to Capernaum, those who collected the didrachma coins came to Peter, and said, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the didrachma?”

λεγει ναι και οτε εισηλθεν εις την οικιαν προεφθασεν αυτον ο ιησους λεγων τι σοι δοκει σιμων οι βασιλεις της γης απο τινων λαμβανουσιν τελη η κηνσον απο των υιων αυτων η απο των αλλοτριων

KJVHe saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?

He said, “Yes.” When he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth receive toll or tribute? From their children, or from strangers?”

λεγει αυτω ο πετρος απο των αλλοτριων εφη αυτω ο ιησους αραγε ελευθεροι εισιν οι υιοι

KJVPeter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.

Peter said to him, “From strangers.” Jesus said to him, “Therefore the children are exempt.

ινα δε μη σκανδαλισωμεν αυτους πορευθεις εις την θαλασσαν βαλε αγκιστρον και τον αναβαντα πρωτον ιχθυν αρον και ανοιξας το στομα αυτου ευρησεις στατηρα εκεινον λαβων δος αυτοις αντι εμου και σου

KJVNotwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee. {a piece...: or, a stater: it is half an ounce of silver, in value two shillings and six pence, sterling; about fifty five cents}

But, lest we cause them to stumble, go to the sea, cast a hook, and take up the first fish that comes up. When you have opened its mouth, you will find a stater coin. Take that, and give it to them for me and you.”
