1 Maccabees 4:27

ὁ δὲ ἀκούσας συνεχύθη καὶ ἠθύμει, ὅτι οὐχ οἷα ἤθελεν, τοιαῦτα ἐγεγόνει τῷ Ισραηλ, καὶ οὐχ οἷα αὐτῷ ἐνετείλατο ὁ βασιλεύς, ἐξέβη.
King James Version (KJV)

Who, when he heard thereof, was confounded and discouraged, because neither such things as he would were done unto Israel, nor such things as the king commanded him were come to pass.

Modern English

and when he heard it, he was stunned and discouraged, since things had not gone as he wished for Israel, nor as the king had commanded.
