1 Maccabees 6:11

καὶ εἶπα τῇ καρδίᾳ Ἕως τίνος θλίψεως ἦλθα καὶ κλύδωνος μεγάλου, ἐν ᾧ νῦν εἰμι; ὅτι χρηστὸς καὶ ἀγαπώμενος ἤμην ἐν τῇ ἐξουσίᾳ μου.

And I thought with myself, Into what tribulation am I come, and how great a flood of misery is it, wherein now I am! for I was bountiful and beloved in my power.

Modern English

I said to myself, into what distress have I fallen, what a flood of misery now surrounds me — I who was once generous and beloved in my power!
