2 Maccabees

2 Maccabees 13:26

King James Version (KJV)

Lysias went up to the judgment seat, said as much as could be in defence of the cause, persuaded, pacified, made them well affected, returned to Antioch. Thus it went touching the king's coming and departing.

Modern English

Lysias took the platform, argued the case as well as he could, won them over, calmed them down, and made them favorably disposed before returning to Antioch. That is how the king's invasion and withdrawal came about.
