2 Maccabees

2 Maccabees 13:3

King James Version (KJV)

Menelaus also joined himself with them, and with great dissimulation encouraged Antiochus, not for the safeguard of the country, but because he thought to have been made governor.

Modern English

Menelaus also joined them, and with great hypocrisy urged Antiochus on, not out of any concern for the nation's welfare, but because he hoped to be reappointed governor.
