2 Maccabees

2 Maccabees 14:15

King James Version (KJV)

Now when the Jews heard of Nicanor's coming, and that the heathen were up against them, they cast earth upon their heads, and made supplication to him that had established his people for ever, and who always helpeth his portion with manifestation of his presence.

Modern English

When the Jews heard that Nicanor was coming and that the Gentiles were rising against them, they threw dust on their heads and prayed to the one who had established his people forever and who always helps his own by making his presence known.
