2 Maccabees

2 Maccabees 14:30

King James Version (KJV)

Notwithstanding, when Maccabeus saw that Nicanor began to be churlish unto him, and that he entreated him more roughly than he was wont, perceiving that such sour behaviour came not of good, he gathered together not a few of his men, and withdrew himself from Nicanor.

Modern English

Yet when Maccabeus noticed that Nicanor had grown cold toward him and was treating him more harshly than usual, and sensed that such sour behavior boded no good, he gathered a considerable number of his men and went into hiding, away from Nicanor.
