2 Maccabees 15:36

ἐδογμάτισαν δὲ πάντες μετὰ κοινοῦ ψηφίσματος μηδαμῶς ἐᾶσαι ἀπαρασήμαντον τήνδε τὴν ἡμέραν, ἔχειν δὲ ἐπίσημον τὴν τρισκαιδεκάτην τοῦ δωδεκάτου μηνὸς – Αδαρ λέγεται τῇ Συριακῇ φωνῇ – πρὸ μιᾶς ἡμέρας τῆς Μαρδοχαικῆς ἡμέρας.

And they ordained all with a common decree in no case to let that day pass without solemnity, but to celebrate the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which in the Syrian tongue is called Adar, the day before Mardocheus' day.

Modern English

By common decree they resolved never to let that day pass without special observance, but to celebrate the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, called Adar in the Syrian tongue, the day before the Day of Mordecai.
