2 Maccabees 4:27

ὁ δὲ Μενέλαος τῆς μὲν ἀρχῆς ἐκράτει, τῶν δὲ ἐπηγγελμένων τῷ βασιλεῖ χρημάτων οὐδὲν εὐτάκτει·

So Menelaus got the principality: but as for the money that he had promised unto the king, he took no good order for it, albeit Sostratus the ruler of the castle required it:

Menelaus thus seized power, but he made no effort to pay the king the money he had promised, even though Sostratus, commander of the citadel, kept demanding it,
