2 Maccabees 4:6

ἑώρα γὰρ ἄνευ βασιλικῆς προνοίας ἀδύνατον εἶναι τυχεῖν εἰρήνης ἔτι τὰ πράγματα καὶ τὸν Σιμωνα παῦλαν οὐ λημψόμενον τῆς ἀνοίας.
King James Version (KJV)

For he saw that it was impossible that the state should continue quiet, and Simon leave his folly, unless the king did look thereunto.

Modern English

because he saw that peace could not be maintained and Simon's foolishness would not stop unless the king intervened.
