And so haughty was Antiochus in mind, that he considered not that the Lord was angry for a while for the sins of them that dwelt in the city, and therefore his eye was not upon the place.
Antiochus was so arrogant that he failed to realize the Lord's anger against the sins of the city's inhabitants was only temporary, which was why God seemed to have turned away from the place.
