2 Maccabees 8:10

διεστήσατο δὲ ὁ Νικάνωρ τὸν φόρον τῷ βασιλεῖ τοῖς Ῥωμαίοις ὄντα ταλάντων δισχιλίων ἐκ τῆς τῶν Ιουδαίων αἰχμαλωσίας ἐκπληρώσειν.
King James Version (KJV)

So Nicanor undertook to make so much money of the captive Jews, as should defray the tribute of two thousand talents, which the king was to pay to the Romans.

Modern English

Nicanor planned to raise enough money from selling Jewish captives to cover the two thousand talents of tribute the king owed to the Romans.
