Sirach (Ecclesiasticus) 10:21

[στίχος ἀπὼν ἀπὸ τοῦ κυρίου ἑλληνικοῦ κειμένου· προσθήκη τῆς παλαιᾶς Λατινικῆς παράδοσης] ὁ φόβος τοῦ Κυρίου προηγεῖται τῆς κτήσεως τῆς ἀρχῆς, ἡ δὲ σκληρότης καὶ ἡ ὑπερηφανία ἀπόλλυσιν αὐτήν.

King James Version (KJV)

The fear of the Lord goeth before the obtaining of authority: but roughness and pride is the losing thereof.

Modern English

The fear of the Lord goes before the gaining of authority, but harshness and pride lose it.
