Sirach (Ecclesiasticus)

Sirach (Ecclesiasticus) 16:3

King James Version (KJV)

Trust not thou in their life, neither respect their multitude: for one that is just is better than a thousand; and better it is to die without children, than to have them that are ungodly.

Modern English

Do not count on their lives, and do not be impressed by their numbers, for one righteous person is worth more than a thousand, and it is better to die childless than to have ungodly children.
