Sirach (Ecclesiasticus)

Sirach (Ecclesiasticus) 23:14

King James Version (KJV)

Remember thy father and thy mother, when thou sittest among great men. Be not forgetful before them, and so thou by thy custom become a fool, and wish that thou hadst not been born, and curse the day of thy nativity.

Modern English

Remember your father and mother when you sit among the great, so that you do not forget yourself before them and, through habit, act foolishly — wishing you had never been born, and cursing the day of your birth.
