Sirach (Ecclesiasticus)

Sirach (Ecclesiasticus) 29:18

[Ἑλλ.
King James Version (KJV)

Suretiship hath undone many of good estate, and shaken them as a wave of the sea: mighty men hath it driven from their houses, so that they wandered among strange nations.

Modern English

[Being a guarantor has ruined many prosperous people, tossing them about like a wave of the sea; it has driven powerful men from their homes, sending them wandering among foreign nations.]
