Sirach (Ecclesiasticus)

Sirach (Ecclesiasticus) 38:33

King James Version (KJV)

They shall not be sought for in publick counsel, nor sit high in the congregation: they shall not sit on the judges' seat, nor understand the sentence of judgment: they cannot declare justice and judgment; and they shall not be found where parables are spoken.

Modern English

they are not sought out for public office, nor do they sit high in the assembly; they do not sit on the judge's bench, nor do they grasp the fine points of the law; they cannot expound on justice and judgment, and they are not found among those who speak in proverbs.
