Wisdom of Solomon

Wisdom of Solomon 12:22

King James Version (KJV)

Therefore, whereas thou dost chasten us, thou scourgest our enemies a thousand times more, to the intent that, when we judge, we should carefully think of thy goodness, and when we ourselves are judged, we should look for mercy.

Modern English

So while you discipline us, you punish our enemies a thousand times more severely, so that when we act as judges we would keep your goodness carefully in mind, and when we ourselves are judged, we would hope for mercy.
