וַיַּ֥עַן אִיּ֖וֹב וַיֹּאמַֽר׃
KJVThen Job answered and said,
Then Job answered and said:

גַּם הַ֭יּוֹם מְרִ֣י שִׂחִ֑י יָדִ֥י כָּ֝בְדָ֗ה עַל אַנְחָתִֽי׃
KJVEven to day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning.
Today also my complaint is bitter; my hand is heavy on account of my groaning.

מִ֤י יִתֵּ֓ן יָדַ֥עְתִּי וְֽאֶמְצָאֵ֗הוּ אָב֥וֹא עַד תְּכוּנָתֽוֹ׃
KJVOh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!
Oh, that I knew where I might find him, that I might come even to his seat!

אֶעֶרְכָ֣ה לְפָנָ֣יו מִשְׁפָּ֑ט וּפִ֥י אֲמַלֵּ֥א תוֹכָחֽוֹת׃
KJVI would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.
I would lay my case before him and fill my mouth with arguments.

אֵדְעָ֥ה מִלִּ֗ים יַעֲנֵ֥נִי וְאָבִ֥ינָה מַה יֹּ֗אמַר לִֽי׃
KJVI would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me.
I would know what he would answer me and understand what he would say to me.

הַ בְּרָב כֹּ֭חַ יָרִ֣יב עִמָּדִ֑י לֹ֥א אַ֝ךְ ה֣וּא יָשֵׂ֥ם בִּֽי׃
KJVWill he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me.
Would he contend with me in the greatness of his power? No; he would pay attention to me.

שָׁ֤ם יָשָׁ֣ר נוֹכָ֣ח עִמּ֑וֹ וַ֝אֲפַלְּטָ֗ה לָנֶ֥צַח מִשֹּׁפְטִֽי׃
KJVThere the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge.
There an upright man could argue with him, and I would be acquitted forever by my judge.

הֵ֤ן קֶ֣דֶם אֶהֱלֹ֣ךְ וְאֵינֶ֑נּוּ וְאָח֖וֹר וְלֹא אָבִ֣ין לֽוֹ׃
KJVBehold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:
Behold, I go forward, but he is not there, and backward, but I do not perceive him;

שְׂמֹ֣אול בַּ֭עֲשֹׂתוֹ וְלֹא אָ֑חַז יַעְטֹ֖ף יָמִ֣ין וְלֹ֣א אֶרְאֶֽה׃
KJVOn the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:
on the left hand when he is working, I do not behold him; he turns to the right hand, but I do not see him.

כִּֽי יָ֭דַע דֶּ֣רֶךְ עִמָּדִ֑י בְּ֝חָנַ֗נִי כַּזָּהָ֥ב אֵצֵֽא׃
KJVBut he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
But he knows the way that I take; when he has tried me, I shall come out as gold.
11
בַּ֭אֲשֻׁרוֹ אָחֲזָ֣ה רַגְלִ֑י דַּרְכּ֥וֹ שָׁ֝מַ֗רְתִּי וְלֹ֣א אָֽט׃
KJVMy foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined.
My foot has held fast to his steps; I have kept his way and have not turned aside.

מִצְוַ֣ת שְׂפָתָ֣יו וְלֹ֣א אָמִ֑ישׁ מֵ֝חֻקִּ֗י צָפַ֥נְתִּי אִמְרֵי פִֽיו׃
KJVNeither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
I have not departed from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my portion of food.
13
וְה֣וּא בְ֭אֶחָד וּמִ֣י יְשִׁיבֶ֑נּוּ וְנַפְשׁ֥וֹ אִוְּתָ֗ה וַיָּֽעַשׂ׃
KJVBut he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth.
But he is unchangeable, and who can turn him back? What he desires, that he does.
14
כִּ֭י יַשְׁלִ֣ים חֻקִּ֑י וְכָהֵ֥נָּה רַ֝בּ֗וֹת עִמּֽוֹ׃
KJVFor he performeth the thing that is appointed for me: and many such things are with him.
For he will complete what he appoints for me, and many such things are in his mind.
15
עַל כֵּ֭ן מִפָּנָ֣יו אֶבָּהֵ֑ל אֶ֝תְבּוֹנֵ֗ן וְאֶפְחַ֥ד מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃
KJVTherefore am I troubled at his presence: when I consider, I am afraid of him.
Therefore I am terrified at his presence; when I consider, I am in dread of him.
16
וְ֭אֵל הֵרַ֣ךְ לִבִּ֑י וְ֝שַׁדַּ֗י הִבְהִילָֽנִי׃
KJVFor God maketh my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me:
God has made my heart faint; the Almighty has terrified me;
17
כִּ֤י לֹ֣א נִ֭צְמַתִּי מִפְּנֵי חֹ֑שֶׁךְ וּמִפָּנַ֥י כִּ֝סָּה אֹֽפֶל׃
KJVBecause I was not cut off before the darkness, neither hath he covered the darkness from my face.
yet I am not silenced because of the darkness, nor because thick darkness covers my face.
