הֲ֭יָדַעְתָּ עֵ֣ת לֶ֣דֶת יַעֲלֵי סָ֑לַע חֹלֵ֖ל אַיָּל֣וֹת תִּשְׁמֹֽר׃
KJVKnowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?
Do you know when the mountain goats give birth? Do you observe the calving of the does?

תִּסְפֹּ֣ר יְרָחִ֣ים תְּמַלֶּ֑אנָה וְ֝יָדַ֗עְתָּ עֵ֣ת לִדְתָּֽן׃
KJVCanst thou number the months that they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?
Can you number the months that they fulfill, and do you know the time when they give birth,

תִּכְרַ֣עְנָה יַלְדֵיהֶ֣ן תְּפַלַּ֑חְנָה חֶבְלֵיהֶ֥ם תְּשַׁלַּֽחְנָה׃
KJVThey bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.
when they crouch, bring forth their young, and are delivered of their offspring?

יַחְלְמ֣וּ בְ֭נֵיהֶם יִרְבּ֣וּ בַבָּ֑ר יָ֝צְא֗וּ וְלֹא שָׁ֣בוּ לָֽמוֹ׃
KJVTheir young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them.
Their young ones become strong; they grow up in the open; they go out and do not return to them.

מִ֭י שִׁלַּח פֶּ֣רֶא חָפְשִׁ֑י וּמוֹסְר֥וֹת עָ֝ר֗וֹד מִ֣י פִתֵּֽחַ׃
KJVWho hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?
Who has let the wild donkey go free? Who has loosed the bonds of the swift donkey,

אֲשֶׁר שַׂ֣מְתִּי עֲרָבָ֣ה בֵית֑וֹ וּמִשְׁכְּנוֹת֥וֹ מְלֵחָֽה׃
KJVWhose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.
to whom I have given the arid plain for his home and the salt land for his dwelling place?

יִשְׂחַ֥ק לַהֲמ֥וֹן קִ֑רְיָה תְּשֻׁאֹ֥ות נֹ֝גֵ֗שׂ לֹ֣א יִשְׁמָֽע׃
KJVHe scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.
He scorns the tumult of the city; he hears not the shouts of the driver.

יְת֣וּר הָ֭רִים מִרְעֵ֑הוּ וְאַחַ֥ר כָּ֝ל יָרֹ֗וק יִדְרֹֽושׁ׃
KJVThe range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.
He ranges the mountains as his pasture, and he searches after every green thing.

הַ֭יֹאבֶה רֵּ֣ים עָבְדֶ֑ךָ אִם יָלִ֥ין עַל אֲבוּסֶֽךָ׃
KJVWill the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?
Is the wild ox willing to serve you? Will he spend the night at your manger?

הֲ֭תִקְשָׁר רֵ֣ים בְּתֶ֣לֶם עֲבֹת֑וֹ אִ֥ם יְשַׂדֵּ֖ד עֲמָקִ֣ים אַחֲרֶֽיךָ׃
KJVCanst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?
Can you bind him in the furrow with ropes, or will he harrow the valleys after you?

הֲ֭תִבְטַח בּ֣וֹ כִּי רַ֣ב כֹּח֑וֹ וְ֝תַעֲזֹ֗ב אֵלָ֥יו יְגִיעֶֽךָ׃
KJVWilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?
Will you rely on him because his strength is great, and will you leave to him your labor?

הַ֭תַּאֲמִין בּ֣וֹ כִּי יָשׁ֣וּב זַרְעֶ֑ךָ וְ֝גָרְנְךָ֗ יֶאֱסֹֽף׃
KJVWilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?
Do you have faith in him that he will return your grain and gather it to your threshing floor?
13
כְּנַף רְנָנִ֥ים נֶעֱלָ֑סָה אִם אֶ֝בְרָ֗ה חֲסִידָ֥ה וְנֹצָֽה׃
KJVGavest thou the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich?
The wings of the ostrich wave proudly, but are they the pinions and plumage of love?

כִּֽי תַעֲזֹ֣ב לָאָ֣רֶץ בֵּיצֶ֑יהָ וְעַל עָפָ֥ר תְּחַמֵּֽם׃
KJVWhich leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,
For she leaves her eggs to the earth and lets them be warmed on the ground,
15
וַתִּשְׁכַּ֣ח כִּי רֶ֣גֶל תְּזוּרֶ֑הָ וְחַיַּ֥ת הַ֝שָּׂדֶ֗ה תְּדוּשֶֽׁהָ׃
KJVAnd forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.
forgetting that a foot may crush them and that the wild beast may trample them.

הִקְשִׁ֣יחַ בָּ֭נֶיהָ לֹּא לָ֑הּ לְ֝רִיק יְגִיעָ֗הּ בְּלִי פָֽחַד׃
KJVShe is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers: her labour is in vain without fear;
She deals cruelly with her young, as if they were not hers; though her labor be in vain, yet she has no fear,
17
כִּֽי הִשָּׁ֣הּ אֱל֣וֹהַּ חָכְמָ֑ה וְלֹ֥א חָ֝לַ֗ק לָ֣הּ בַּבִּינָֽה׃
KJVBecause God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.
because God has made her forget wisdom and given her no share in understanding.
18
כָּעֵ֣ת בַּ֭מָּרוֹם תַּמְרִ֑יא תִּשְׂחַ֥ק לַ֝סּ֗וּס וּלְרֹכְבֽוֹ׃
KJVWhat time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.
When she rouses herself to flee, she laughs at the horse and his rider.
19
הֲ֭תִתֵּן לַסּ֥וּס גְּבוּרָ֑ה הֲ֝תִלְבִּ֗ישׁ צַוָּארָ֥יו רַעְמָֽה׃
KJVHast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?
Do you give the horse his might? Do you clothe his neck with a mane?
20
הֲתַרְעִישֶׁ֥נּוּ כָּאַרְבֶּ֑ה ה֥וֹד נַ֝חְר֗וֹ אֵימָֽה׃
KJVCanst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible.
Do you make him leap like the locust? His majestic snorting is terrifying.
21
יַחְפְּר֣וּ בָ֭עֵמֶק וְיָשִׂ֣ישׂ בְּכֹ֑חַ יֵ֝צֵ֗א לִקְרַאת נָֽשֶׁק׃
KJVHe paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.
He paws in the valley and exults in his strength; he goes out to meet the weapons.
22
יִשְׂחַ֣ק לְ֭פַחַד וְלֹ֣א יֵחָ֑ת וְלֹא יָ֝שׁ֗וּב מִפְּנֵי חָֽרֶב׃
KJVHe mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.
He laughs at fear and is not dismayed; he does not turn back from the sword.
23
עָ֭לָיו תִּרְנֶ֣ה אַשְׁפָּ֑ה לַ֥הַב חֲ֝נִ֗ית וְכִידֽוֹן׃
KJVThe quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.
Upon him rattle the quiver, the flashing spear, and the javelin.

בְּרַ֣עַשׁ וְ֭רֹגֶז יְגַמֶּא אָ֑רֶץ וְלֹ֥א יַ֝אֲמִ֗ין כִּי קֽוֹל שׁוֹפָֽר׃
KJVHe swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet.
With fierceness and rage he swallows the ground; he cannot stand still at the sound of the trumpet.

בְּדֵ֤י שֹׁפָ֨ר ׀ יֹאמַ֗ר הֶ֫אָ֥ח וּמֵרָח֥וֹק יָרִ֣יחַ מִלְחָמָ֑ה רַ֥עַם שָׂרִ֗ים וּתְרוּעָֽה׃
KJVHe saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
When the trumpet sounds, he says: Aha! He smells the battle from afar, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

הֲ֭מִבִּינָתְךָ יַאֲבֶר נֵ֑ץ יִפְרֹ֥שׂ כְּ֝נָפָ֗יו לְתֵימָֽן׃
KJVDoth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?
Is it by your understanding that the hawk soars and spreads his wings toward the south?
27
אִֽם עַל פִּ֭יךָ יַגְבִּ֣יהַּ נָ֑שֶׁר וְכִ֥י יָ֝רִ֗ים קִנּ֥וֹ׃
KJVDoth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?
Is it at your command that the eagle mounts up and makes his nest on high?
28
סֶ֭לַע יִשְׁכֹּ֣ן וְיִתְלֹנָ֑ן עַל שֶׁן סֶ֝֗לַע וּמְצוּדָֽה׃
KJVShe dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.
On the rock he dwells and makes his home, on the rocky crag and stronghold.

מִשָּׁ֥ם חָפַ֥ר אֹ֑כֶל לְמֵרָח֖וֹק עֵינָ֣יו יַבִּֽיטוּ׃
KJVFrom thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off.
From there he spies out the prey; his eyes behold it from afar.
30
וְ֭אֶפְרֹחָיו יְעַלְעוּ דָ֑ם וּבַאֲשֶׁ֥ר חֲ֝לָלִ֗ים שָׁ֣ם הֽוּא׃
KJVHer young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she.
His young ones suck up blood, and where the slain are, there is he.
