και προσκαλεσαμενος τους δωδεκα μαθητας αυτου εδωκεν αυτοις εξουσιαν πνευματων ακαθαρτων ωστε εκβαλλειν αυτα και θεραπευειν πασαν νοσον και πασαν μαλακιαν
KJVAnd when he had called unto {him} his twelve disciples, he gave them power {against} unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. {against: or, over}
He called to himself his twelve disciples, and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every sickness.

των δε δωδεκα αποστολων τα ονοματα εστιν ταυτα πρωτος σιμων ο λεγομενος πετρος και ανδρεας ο αδελφος αυτου ιακωβος ο του ζεβεδαιου και ιωαννης ο αδελφος αυτου
KJVNow the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James {the son} of Zebedee, and John his brother;

σιμων ο κανανιτης και ιουδας ισκαριωτης ο και παραδους αυτον

τουτους τους δωδεκα απεστειλεν ο ιησους παραγγειλας αυτοις λεγων εις οδον εθνων μη απελθητε και εις πολιν σαμαρειτων μη εισελθητε
KJVThese twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into {any} city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
Jesus sent these twelve out, and commanded them, saying, “Don’t go among the Gentiles, and don’t enter into any city of the Samaritans.

πορευεσθε δε μαλλον προς τα προβατα τα απολωλοτα οικου ισραηλ
KJVBut go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Rather, go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

πορευομενοι δε κηρυσσετε λεγοντες οτι ηγγικεν η βασιλεια των ουρανων
KJVAnd as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
As you go, preach, saying, ‘The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!’

ασθενουντας θεραπευετε λεπρους καθαριζετε νεκρους εγειρετε δαιμονια εκβαλλετε δωρεαν ελαβετε δωρεαν δοτε
KJVHeal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, and cast out demons. Freely you received, so freely give.

μη κτησησθε χρυσον μηδε αργυρον μηδε χαλκον εις τας ζωνας υμων
KJVProvide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses, {Provide: or, Get}
Don’t take any gold, silver, or brass in your money belts.

μη πηραν εις οδον μηδε δυο χιτωνας μηδε υποδηματα μηδε ραβδον ραβδους αξιος γαρ ο εργατης της τροφης αυτου εστιν
KJVNor scrip for {your} journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat. {staves: Gr. a staff}
Take no bag for your journey, neither two coats, nor shoes, nor staff: for the laborer is worthy of his food.

εις ην δ αν πολιν η κωμην εισελθητε εξετασατε τις εν αυτη αξιος εστιν κακει μεινατε εως αν εξελθητε
KJVAnd into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence.
Into whatever city or village you enter, find out who in it is worthy; and stay there until you go on.

εισερχομενοι δε εις την οικιαν ασπασασθε αυτην
KJVAnd when ye come into an house, salute it.
As you enter into the household, greet it.

και εαν μεν η η οικια αξια ελθετω η ειρηνη υμων επ αυτην εαν δε μη η αξια η ειρηνη υμων προς υμας επιστραφητω
KJVAnd if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.
If the household is worthy, let your peace come on it, but if it isn’t worthy, let your peace return to you.

και ος εαν μη δεξηται υμας μηδε ακουση τους λογους υμων εξερχομενοι της οικιας η της πολεως εκεινης εκτιναξατε τον κονιορτον των ποδων υμων
KJVAnd whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
Whoever doesn’t receive you, nor hear your words, as you go out of that house or that city, shake the dust off your feet.

αμην λεγω υμιν ανεκτοτερον εσται γη σοδομων και γομορρων εν ημερα κρισεως η τη πολει εκεινη
KJVVerily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
Most certainly I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.

ιδου εγω αποστελλω υμας ως προβατα εν μεσω λυκων γινεσθε ουν φρονιμοι ως οι οφεις και ακεραιοι ως αι περιστεραι
KJVBehold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. {harmless: or, simple}
“Behold, I send you out as sheep among wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

προσεχετε δε απο των ανθρωπων παραδωσουσιν γαρ υμας εις συνεδρια και εν ταις συναγωγαις αυτων μαστιγωσουσιν υμας
KJVBut beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;
But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to councils, and in their synagogues they will scourge you.

και επι ηγεμονας δε και βασιλεις αχθησεσθε ενεκεν εμου εις μαρτυριον αυτοις και τοις εθνεσιν
KJVAnd ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.
Yes, and you will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the nations.

οταν δε παραδιδωσιν υμας μη μεριμνησητε πως η τι λαλησητε δοθησεται γαρ υμιν εν εκεινη τη ωρα τι λαλησετε
KJVBut when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.
But when they deliver you up, don’t be anxious how or what you will say, for it will be given you in that hour what you will say.

ου γαρ υμεις εστε οι λαλουντες αλλα το πνευμα του πατρος υμων το λαλουν εν υμιν
KJVFor it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.
For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.
21
παραδωσει δε αδελφος αδελφον εις θανατον και πατηρ τεκνον και επαναστησονται τεκνα επι γονεις και θανατωσουσιν αυτους
KJVAnd the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against {their} parents, and cause them to be put to death.
“Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child. Children will rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death.

και εσεσθε μισουμενοι υπο παντων δια το ονομα μου ο δε υπομεινας εις τελος ουτος σωθησεται
KJVAnd ye shall be hated of all {men} for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.
You will be hated by all men for my name’s sake, but he who endures to the end will be saved.

οταν δε διωκωσιν υμας εν τη πολει ταυτη φευγετε εις την αλλην αμην γαρ λεγω υμιν ου μη τελεσητε τας πολεις του ισραηλ εως αν ελθη ο υιος του ανθρωπου
KJVBut when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come. {have...: or, end, or, finish}
But when they persecute you in this city, flee into the next, for most certainly I tell you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel, until the Son of Man has come.

ουκ εστιν μαθητης υπερ τον διδασκαλον ουδε δουλος υπερ τον κυριον αυτου
KJVThe disciple is not above {his} master, nor the servant above his lord.
“A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his lord.
25
αρκετον τω μαθητη ινα γενηται ως ο διδασκαλος αυτου και ο δουλος ως ο κυριος αυτου ει τον οικοδεσποτην βεελζεβουλ βεελζεβουβ εκαλεσαν ποσω μαλλον τους οικιακους αυτου
KJVIt is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more {shall they call} them of his household? {Beelzebub: Gr. Beelzebul}
It is enough for the disciple that he be like his teacher, and the servant like his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more those of his household!

μη ουν φοβηθητε αυτους ουδεν γαρ εστιν κεκαλυμμενον ο ουκ αποκαλυφθησεται και κρυπτον ο ου γνωσθησεται
KJVFear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.
Therefore don’t be afraid of them, for there is nothing covered that will not be revealed; and hidden that will not be known.

ο λεγω υμιν εν τη σκοτια ειπατε εν τω φωτι και ο εις το ους ακουετε κηρυξατε επι των δωματων
KJVWhat I tell you in darkness, {that} speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, {that} preach ye upon the housetops.
What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in the ear, proclaim on the housetops.

και μη φοβηθητε απο των αποκτεινοντων το σωμα την δε ψυχην μη δυναμενων αποκτειναι φοβηθητε δε μαλλον τον δυναμενον και ψυχην και σωμα απολεσαι εν γεεννη
KJVAnd fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Don’t be afraid of those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul. Rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.

ουχι δυο στρουθια ασσαριου πωλειται και εν εξ αυτων ου πεσειται επι την γην ανευ του πατρος υμων
KJVAre not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. {farthing: it is in value halfpenny farthing in the original, as being the tenth part of the Roman penny}
“Aren’t two sparrows sold for an assarion coin? Not one of them falls on the ground apart from your Father’s will,

υμων δε και αι τριχες της κεφαλης πασαι ηριθμημεναι εισιν
KJVBut the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
but the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

μη ουν φοβηθητε πολλων στρουθιων διαφερετε υμεις
KJVFear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
Therefore don’t be afraid. You are of more value than many sparrows.
32
πας ουν οστις ομολογησει εν εμοι εμπροσθεν των ανθρωπων ομολογησω καγω εν αυτω εμπροσθεν του πατρος μου του εν ουρανοις
KJVWhosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
Everyone therefore who confesses me before men, him I will also confess before my Father who is in heaven.
33
οστις δ αν αρνησηται με εμπροσθεν των ανθρωπων αρνησομαι αυτον καγω εμπροσθεν του πατρος μου του εν ουρανοις
KJVBut whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
But whoever denies me before men, him I will also deny before my Father who is in heaven.

μη νομισητε οτι ηλθον βαλειν ειρηνην επι την γην ουκ ηλθον βαλειν ειρηνην αλλα μαχαιραν
KJVThink not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
“Don’t think that I came to send peace on the earth. I didn’t come to send peace, but a sword.

ηλθον γαρ διχασαι ανθρωπον κατα του πατρος αυτου και θυγατερα κατα της μητρος αυτης και νυμφην κατα της πενθερας αυτης
KJVFor I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
For I came to set a man at odds against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

και εχθροι του ανθρωπου οι οικιακοι αυτου
KJVAnd a man's foes {shall be} they of his own household.
A man’s foes will be those of his own household.
37
ο φιλων πατερα η μητερα υπερ εμε ουκ εστιν μου αξιος και ο φιλων υιον η θυγατερα υπερ εμε ουκ εστιν μου αξιος
KJVHe that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me isn’t worthy of me.
38
και ος ου λαμβανει τον σταυρον αυτου και ακολουθει οπισω μου ουκ εστιν μου αξιος
KJVAnd he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
He who doesn’t take his cross and follow after me, isn’t worthy of me.
39
ο ευρων την ψυχην αυτου απολεσει αυτην και ο απολεσας την ψυχην αυτου ενεκεν εμου ευρησει αυτην
KJVHe that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.
He who seeks his life will lose it; and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.
40
ο δεχομενος υμας εμε δεχεται και ο εμε δεχομενος δεχεται τον αποστειλαντα με
KJVHe that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me.
41
ο δεχομενος προφητην εις ονομα προφητου μισθον προφητου ληψεται και ο δεχομενος δικαιον εις ονομα δικαιου μισθον δικαιου ληψεται
KJVHe that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.
He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward. He who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward.
42
και ος εαν ποτιση ενα των μικρων τουτων ποτηριον ψυχρου μονον εις ονομα μαθητου αμην λεγω υμιν ου μη απολεση τον μισθον αυτου
KJVAnd whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold {water} only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
Whoever gives one of these little ones just a cup of cold water to drink in the name of a disciple, most certainly I tell you he will in no way lose his reward.”
