2 Maccabees 7:5

ἄχρηστον δὲ αὐτὸν τοῖς ὅλοις γενόμενον ἐκέλευσεν τῇ πυρᾷ προσάγειν ἔμπνουν καὶ τηγανίζειν. τῆς δὲ ἀτμίδος ἐφ’ ἱκανὸν διαδιδούσης τοῦ τηγάνου ἀλλήλους παρεκάλουν σὺν τῇ μητρὶ γενναίως τελευτᾶν λέγοντες οὕτως

Now when he was thus maimed in all his members, he commanded him being yet alive to be brought to the fire, and to be fried in the pan: and as the vapour of the pan was for a good space dispersed, they exhorted one another with the mother to die manfully, saying thus,

Modern English

When he had been mutilated in every part, the king ordered him, still alive, brought to the fire and fried in the pan. As the smoke from the pan spread out, the others, together with their mother, encouraged one another to die bravely, saying,
