וַיַּ֥עַן אֱלִיה֖וּא וַיֹּאמַֽר׃
KJVFurthermore Elihu answered and said,
Then Elihu answered and said:

שִׁמְע֣וּ חֲ֭כָמִים מִלָּ֑י וְ֝יֹדְעִ֗ים הַאֲזִ֥ינוּ לִֽי׃
KJVHear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.
Hear my words, you wise men, and give ear to me, you who know;
3
כִּ֤י אֹ֣זֶן מִ֭לִּין תִּבְחָ֑ן וְ֝חֵ֗ךְ יִטְעַ֥ם לֶאֱכֹֽל׃
KJVFor the ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat.
for the ear tests words as the palate tastes food.

מִשְׁפָּ֥ט נִבְחֲרָ֑ה לָ֝֗נוּ נֵדְעָ֥ה בֵינֵ֗ינוּ מַה טּֽוֹב׃
KJVLet us choose to us judgment: let us know among ourselves what is good.
Let us choose what is right; let us know among ourselves what is good.

כִּי אָמַ֣ר אִ֭יּוֹב צָדַ֑קְתִּי וְ֝אֵ֗ל הֵסִ֥יר מִשְׁפָּטִֽי׃
KJVFor Job hath said, I am righteous: and God hath taken away my judgment.
For Job has said: I am in the right, and God has taken away my right;
6
עַל מִשְׁפָּטִ֥י אֲכַזֵּ֑ב אָנ֥וּשׁ חִ֝צִּ֗י בְּלִי פָֽשַׁע׃
KJVShould I lie against my right? my wound is incurable without transgression.
in spite of my right I am counted a liar; my wound is incurable, though I am without transgression.

מִי גֶ֭בֶר כְּאִיּ֑וֹב יִ֝שְׁתֶּה לַ֣עַג כַּמָּֽיִם׃
KJVWhat man is like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?
What man is like Job, who drinks up scoffing like water,
8
וְֽאָרַ֥ח לְחֶבְרָ֗ה עִם פֹּ֥עֲלֵי אָ֑וֶן וְלֶ֖כֶת עִם אַנְשֵׁי רֶֽשַׁע׃
KJVWhich goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.
who travels in company with evildoers and walks with wicked men?
9
כִּ֤י אָמַ֗ר לֹ֣א יִ֭סְכֹּן גֶּ֑בֶר בִּ֝רְצֹת֗וֹ עִם אֱלֹהִֽים׃
KJVFor he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.
For he has said: It profits a man nothing that he should take delight in God.

לָ֭כֵן אַנְשֵׁ֣י לֵבָ֑ב שִׁמְע֥וּ לִ֝י חָלִ֥ילָה לָ֗אֵ֗ל מֵרֶ֥שַׁע וְשַׁדַּ֗י מֵעָֽוֶל׃
KJVTherefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.
Therefore, hear me, you men of understanding: far be it from God that he should do wickedness, and from the Almighty that he should do wrong.
11
כִּ֭י פֹ֣עַל אָדָ֑ם יְ֝שַׁלֶּם ל֗וֹ וּכְאֹ֣רַח אִ֭ישׁ יַמְצִאֶֽנּוּ׃
KJVFor the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.
For according to the work of a man he will repay him, and according to his ways he will make it befall him.
12
אַ֭ף אָמְנָ֣ם אֵ֣ל לֹא יַרְשִׁ֑יעַ וְ֝שַׁדַּ֗י לֹא יְעַוֵּ֥ת מִשְׁפָּֽט׃
KJVYea, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.
Of a truth, God will not do wickedly, and the Almighty will not pervert justice.
13
מִ֭י פָקַ֣ד עָלָ֑יו אָ֑רְצָה וּמִ֥י שָׂ֝֗ם תֵּבֵ֥ל כֻּלָּֽהּ׃
KJVWho hath given him a charge over the earth? or who hath disposed the whole world?
Who gave him charge over the earth, and who laid on him the whole world?
14
אִם יָשִׂ֣ים אֵ֭לָיו לִבּ֑וֹ ר֥וּחוֹ וְ֝נִשְׁמָת֗וֹ אֵלָ֥יו יֶאֱסֹֽף׃
KJVIf he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;
If he should set his heart to it and gather to himself his spirit and his breath,
15
יִגְוַ֣ע כָּל בָּשָׂ֣ר יָ֑חַד וְ֝אָדָ֗ם עַל עָפָ֥ר יָשֽׁוּב׃
KJVAll flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.
all flesh would perish together, and man would return to dust.
16
וְ֭אִם בִּינָ֣ה שִׁמְעָה זֹּ֑את הַ֝אֲזִ֗ינָה לְק֣וֹל מִלָּֽי׃
KJVIf now thou hast understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words.
If you have understanding, hear this; listen to what I say.
17
הַ אַ֘ף שׂ֤וֹנֵא מִשְׁפָּ֗ט יַחֲב֑וֹשׁ וְ֝אִם צַדִּ֗יק כַּבִּ֥יר תַּרְשִֽׁיעַ׃
KJVShall even he that hateth right govern? and wilt thou condemn him that is most just?
Shall one who hates justice govern? Will you condemn him who is righteous and mighty,
18
הַאֲמֹ֣ר לְמֶ֣לֶךְ בְּלִיָּ֑עַל רָ֝שָׁ֗ע אֶל נְדִיבִֽים׃
KJVIs it fit to say to a king, Thou art wicked? and to princes, Ye are ungodly?
who says to a king: Worthless one, and to nobles: Wicked man,
19
אֲשֶׁ֤ר לֹא נָשָׂ֨א ׀ פְּנֵ֬י שָׂרִ֗ים וְלֹ֣א נִ֭כַּר שׁ֣וֹעַ לִפְנֵי דָ֑ל כִּי מַעֲשֵׂ֖ה יָדָ֣יו כֻּלָּֽם׃
KJVHow much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.
who shows no partiality to princes, nor regards the rich more than the poor, for they are all the work of his hands?
20
רֶ֤גַע ׀ יָמֻ֗תוּ וַחֲצ֣וֹת לַ֭יְלָה יְגֹעֲשׁ֣וּ עָ֑ם וְיַעֲבֹ֗֝רוּ וְיָסִ֥ירוּ אַבִּ֗יר לֹ֣א בְיָֽד׃
KJVIn a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.
In a moment they die; at midnight the people are shaken and pass away, and the mighty are taken away by no human hand.
21
כִּ֭י עֵינָ֣יו עַל דַּרְכֵי אִ֑ישׁ וְכָל צְ֝עָדָ֗יו יִרְאֶֽה׃
KJVFor his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings.
For his eyes are on the ways of a man, and he sees all his steps.
22
אֵין חֹ֭שֶׁךְ וְאֵ֣ין צַלְמָ֑וֶת לְ֝הִסָּתֶ֗ר שָׁ֣ם פֹּ֣עֲלֵי אָֽוֶן׃
KJVThere is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
There is no gloom or deep darkness where evildoers may hide themselves.
23
כִּ֤י לֹ֥א עַל אִ֗ישׁ יָשִׂ֗ים עוֹד֮ לְהַלֵּ֪ךְ אֶ֫ל אֵ֥ל בַּמִּשְׁפָּֽט׃
KJVFor he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God.
For God has no need to consider a man further, that he should go before God in judgment.
24
יָרֹ֥עַ כַּבִּירִ֗ים לֹא חֵ֫קֶ֥ר וַיַּ֥עֲמֵד אֲחֵרִ֗ים תַּחְתָּֽם׃
KJVHe shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their stead.
He shatters the mighty without investigation and sets others in their place.
25
לָ֭כֵן יַכִּ֣יר מַעְבָּדֵיהֶ֑ם וְ֝הָפַ֗ךְ לַ֣יְלָה וְיִדַּכָּֽאוּ׃
KJVTherefore he knoweth their works, and he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.
Thus, knowing their works, he overturns them in the night, and they are crushed.
26
תַּ֣חַת רְ֭שָׁעִים סְפָקָ֑ם בִּמְק֥וֹם רֹ֝אִ֗ים׃
KJVHe striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others;
He strikes them for their wickedness in a place for all to see,
27
אֲשֶׁ֥ר עַל כֵּ֗ן שָׂ֫טוּ מֵֽאַחֲרָ֥יו וְכָל דְּרָכָ֗יו לֹ֣א הִשְׂכִּֽילוּ׃
KJVBecause they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways:
because they turned aside from following him and had no regard for any of his ways,
28
לְהָבִ֣יא עָ֭לָיו צַעֲקַ֥ת דָּ֑ל וְצַעֲקַ֥ת עֲ֝נִיִּ֗ים יִשְׁמָֽע׃
KJVSo that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.
so that they caused the cry of the poor to come to him, and he heard the cry of the afflicted —
29
וְהוּא יַשְׁקִ֗ט וּמִ֣י יַרְשִׁ֣עַ וְ֭יַסְתֵּר פָּנִ֑ים וּמִ֥י יְ֝שׁוּרֶ֗נּוּ וְעַל גּ֤וֹי ׀ וְעַל אָדָ֗ם יָֽחַד׃
KJVWhen he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:
When he is quiet, who can condemn? When he hides his face, who can behold him, whether it be a nation or a man? —
30
מִמְּלֹ֥ךְ אָדָ֗ם חָ֫נֵ֥ף מִמֹּקְשֵׁ֥י עָֽם׃
KJVThat the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared.
that a godless man should not reign, that he should not be a snare to the people.
31
כִּ֣י אֶל אֵ֭ל אָמַ֣ר נָשָׂ֑אתִי לֹ֥א אֶ֝חְבֹּ֗ל׃
KJVSurely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more:
For has anyone said to God: I have borne punishment; I will not offend anymore;
32
בִּלְעֲדֵ֣י אֶחֱזֶ֣ה אַ֑תָּה הוֹרֵ֥נִי אִם עָ֝וֶל פָּעַ֥לְתִּי לֹ֣א אֹסִֽיף׃
KJVThat which I see not teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.
teach me what I do not see; if I have done iniquity, I will do it no more?
33
הַמֵּעִמְּךָ֗ יְשַׁלְּמֶ֗נָּה כִּ֣י מָ֭אַסְתָּ כִּי אַתָּ֣ה תִבְחָ֑ר וְלֹ֥א אָ֝נִי וּמַה יָּדַ֥עְתָּ דַבֵּֽר׃
KJVShould it be according to thy mind? he will recompense it, whether thou refuse, or whether thou choose; and not I: therefore speak what thou knowest.
Will he then make repayment to suit you, because you reject it? For you must choose, and not I; therefore declare what you know.
34
אַנְשֵׁ֣י לֵ֭בָב יֹֽאמְרוּ לִ֑י וְגֶ֖בֶר חָכָ֣ם שֹׁמֵ֣עַ לִֽי׃
KJVLet men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man hearken unto me.
Men of understanding will say to me, and the wise man who hears me will say:
35
אִיּ֗וֹב לֹא בְ֭דַעַת יְדַבֵּ֑ר וּ֝דְבָרָ֗יו לֹ֣א בְהַשְׂכֵּֽיל׃
KJVJob hath spoken without knowledge, and his words were without wisdom.
Job speaks without knowledge; his words are without insight.
36
אָ֭בִי יִבָּחֵ֣ן אִיּ֑וֹב עַד נֶ֝צַח בַּעֲנֹ֥ת בְּאַנְשֵׁי אָֽוֶן׃
KJVMy desire is that Job may be tried unto the end because of his answers for wicked men.
Would that Job were tried to the end, because he answers like wicked men.
37
כִּי יֹסִ֣יף עַל חַטָּאת֣וֹ פֶ֑שַׁע בֵּינֵ֥ינוּ יִ֝סְפּ֗וֹק וְיֶ֣רֶב אֲמָרָ֣יו לָאֵֽל׃
KJVFor he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth his hands among us, and multiplieth his words against God.
For he adds rebellion to his sin; he claps his hands among us and multiplies his words against God.
