2 Samuel 12:22

וַיֹּ֕אמֶר בְּעוֹד֙ הַיֶּ֣לֶד חַ֔י צַ֖מְתִּי וָֽאֶבְכֶּ֑ה כִּ֤י אָמַ֙רְתִּי֙ מִ֣י יוֹדֵ֔עַ יחנני וְחַנַּ֥נִי יְהוָ֖ה וְחַ֥י הַיָּֽלֶד׃
vayoʾmer bʿvod hayeled ḥay ṣamtiy vaʾebkeh kiy ʾamartiy miy yvodeʿa yḥnny vḥananiy yhvah vḥay hayaled
King James Version (KJV)

And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell {whether} GOD will be gracious to me, that the child may live?

Modern English

He said, “While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who knows whether Yahweh will not be gracious to me, that the child may live?’
